I had a dream last night. I was on my private yacht, drinking Louis Roderer Crystal Champagne, a Roman Goddess (who looked a lot like Catherine Zeta Jones) attending to my every whim while Russell Crowe in his Gladiator uniform stood guard to make sure I was not attacked by anything from Mars.Just as the Goddess was about to show me her Coliseums …….the alarm clock & the ships thrusters brought me back to reality at 7 am as we arrived into Messina. I turned the light on as the last few images of The Goddess had been replaced by a voice from deep under the covers that said “turn the light off” …. I have excluded a few words from that statement as this is a PG 13 blog thingy.

The light got turned off and we began our usual morning conversation that goes something like this.

John “do you want the bathroom first?”
Miss Grumpy “no, you go”
John “OK”
Miss grumpy “No, I will use it first”
John “OK, I need to pee”
John goes to pee
Miss Grumpy “Hurry Up”
John “OK “……….takes as long as he can just to annoy her
Heidi then goes into the bathroom
Miss grumpy “you didn’t put the seat down”

The first thing I did when we bought our house was to make sure we have at least three bathrooms!

So, once showered, Heidi left to go to take care of the tours, etc. while I went to have my morning meeting with Mr. S………..he of the “I know what really happened to the Titanic “statement. I went down to the Lobby and met with Duncan the Hotel Director as I wanted a witness to be present during my conversation with Mr. Spock.

I guess I had been expecting a “strange looking chap”………..not with pointed ears but ………well…………different………..maybe his head would be extra large or he would have a third ear……………….but I was to be disappointed. Mr. Spock arrived on schedule and he looked …………normal. We invited him to sit down and we began to listen to his story………………which lasted 35 minutes.

We thanked him very much and assured him that we would pass the information onto the Captain as he had requested and he left………..I wanted to ask him if he was going to beam back to his cabin but Duncan wouldn’t let me.

So, you all want to know his theory. As I mentioned in the last blog Mr.Spock believes that the Titanic was sunk by a ship from outer space. He also believes the same ship is responsible for many other disasters including the downing various planes (he specifically mentioned the Korean Airlines plane) and many others. He is writing a book which he says the government is trying to stop.

Now, I want you all to know that Mr. Spock is very intelligent and truly believes in what he says and is proof positive that meeting people like Mr. Spock will only happen in the cruise industry. Can you imagine him going up to the front desk of the Ritz Carlton and saying ” Can I speak to the manager as I think you are about to be attacked by a space ship from the planet Zonk”…..the chaps in white coats would be there before you know it. So, Mr. Spock left very happy and who knows……………..maybe he is right…………I have my phaser with me just in case.

After I had boldly gone where no cruise director has gone before (stop it now with the Star Trek references) I went back to the cabin, checked my sugar level (a little low so I had a banana) and then went back to the lobby for my interview with the Japanese TV crew we have sailing. They had been very nice as to send the Captain, Hotel Director and myself the questions they would ask ahead of time and I thought you would like to see them.

Japanese Interview Question

The interview finished I returned to the cabin and that’s where you find me now as I begin today’s blog.

Do you remember the photo I placed on a blog a few days ago of the Carnival Triumph in heavy seas which was taken by the Canadian Coast Guard? …………………Well, my sources tell me that some folks on Cruise Critic are claiming that I photo cropped or something and that the photo is not real. There is even a comment from some ex Navy chap who says you can tell it is not real by the colour of the water and that the pixies are different or something.

Now, far be it for me to disagree with him and the one or two others who may think the same but to think that I would make this up or even have the knowledge of how to do so is ludicrous. It was real, Heidi and I were there along with one of Carnival’s finest Captains, Salvatore Rassello ……………oh and yes…………..3,000 passengers………….the seas were rough, the hurricane had passed through and left the seas looking like Mother Nature had decided to give it the good news with a giant egg whisk…………or maybe we were being attacked by something from the planet ………………….stop it John!.

Let’s do some photos and all calm down a bit……………I got worked up there because I was told someone had written on Cruise Critic that the “photo was sad, just like his blog”…………….I would like to meet him someday …………….and so would Fatima.

Sorry again

Here are the photos and today, we are off to Burano, one of the smaller islands in Venice.

Here are today’s letters from the In Their Own Words Section.

Here we go with some Q and A………………………..Oh, just a note of apology that the comments were not updated and no blog was posted until Sunday evening but Roberto has worked so hard I asked him not to post comments and my blog until Sunday so he could spend the entire Saturday with his family rather than at the computer………..thanks for your understanding.

Let’s start with the last two from the blog with the John Cleese interview on it.

RAY CZENSZAK – Yep, I got to interview Mr. Cleese and hearing him laugh at one or two of the things I said was music to my ears. I am glad I had the chance to share the laughter with you mate and we will see you for more of the same on the Carnival Splendor.
CONNIE RITTMAN – As you have sailed with me on the Carnival Ecstasy in 1991 and again on the Carnival Liberty in 2006 you have seen both sizes of Elvis……….so to speak. I wish I could be with you on the Carnival Legend in 2008 but I know regardless that you will have a fantastic time. Please keep reading the blog thingy and I look forward to the next time when we can be together.

NOW WE MOVE ON TO THE QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM THE BLOG CALLED FEELING BETTER.

NANETTE – See you on January 14th Nani when the Carnival Freedom comes calling. Thank you for supporting me and by the time I meet you again I hope my Spanish is as good as Mr. Herrera’s English. Much hugos mi amor.
LINDA HERNACKI – Thanks for your concern Linda and although I still feel a bit weak I am getting better every day. You are so nice to think of bringing Heidi and I gifts and I promise that I will let you know by the end of this month if I will be there for your cruise. At the moment I honestly do not know and Todd and I are talking about the best scenario for us both. When I see your name on the comments I smile because I know I am writing to two friends and I hope that we will meet in person in November, Linda, especially as the bulbs need changing. Take care and many thanks again.
TERRI910 – Thank to you Terri for your nice words. I admit I was surprised when I heard by the article that says the blog thingy “sounded like a Carnival commercial” because I really do not want it to be just about that. Yes, I want people to cruise with us…..why?………..because I believe in the product…………..but, I hope that the blog also shows the mistakes that I and sometimes the company make and how we resolve and correct those concerns. Anyway, until you all stop reading I will keep blogging away unless my two fingers simply drop off. Thanks again Terri and all the best.
MARILYN VISCHIO – The “poops and the pukies” have gone but my stomach feels like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears have spent all night partying in there. Let me answer your questions regarding the 2008 Miami to Rome crossing.
1. You asked if you can make your Supper Club booking now which indeed you may. You can complete the form thingy link thingy or you can just tell me when, where, etc. and I will book the table for you.
2. As you are sailing back to back you do not need to re check in after the crossing. All you will need to do is go down to the gangway and have your photo taken so it reactivates your Sail & Sign card and updates it. If you are staying in the same cabin you have nothing else to do except go ashore and enjoy Rome.
3. The only tour I suggest you book without fail now are those that do say limited on them especially the Vatican tours. These truly are limited to a few people and it may be wise to book the ones you want now. If you have tour specific questions please let me know.
I hope this helps and I remain at your service as and when you need me. See you next year.
PEANUTS – Its still feels really silly that I am a Miami Heat fan but here on my desk sits the Lakers cup which by the way is the only cup they will have their name on this season. The ring is a little flashy as you said but can you imagine wearing one of those for real………….I think it probably gives you special powers. I checked on the supper club reservation for you and it has indeed been confirmed as requested. I can’t wait to get my Pistons mug as it will give me something to keep my false teeth in when I am older. Say hello to the GIRLS and thanks Joan for being such a great friend.
LFTTNSFCF – Consider yourself hired! Was I too descriptive about my bathroom shenanigans? See you in 43 days and the food is waiting mate.
THE BEARS, CARL AND BARB – I am so happy to hear from you following your surgery. You said you are OK but please let me know as often as you can how you are doing as we both will always be here for you. Please write soon and best wishes to you both.
GREG BALDASARRI – The bet is on and I like my Porterhouse cooked well done please as Shaq and the boys are ready to go. Think of me though watching the games on vacation at 2 am! Glad you enjoyed the last blog and hope this one finds you well.
DAVE AND MELANIE MYERS – Heidi says her neck is better and thank you for asking. You will not believe how much I was in the doghouse for that one. I am feeling mostly better although I still need to be insight of a bathroom at all times. Thank you both for your concern and I hope you are both well.
SOUTHERNDREAMS – Hopefully that last chemotherapy treatment will be the end of your concerns, Bonnie. How do you feel today? I was thinking of you so much when we did our walk yesterday (see below) and I am sure everyone here joins me in wishing you well. Thanks to your Prince Charlie for looking after you and please let us know how things progress. Heidi and I will see you very soon.
LISA WIGGS – Lisa, the article on the Emerald Princess should be slapped on very soon. I did not know that Cruise Travel magazine had written an article on her this week……………..well reading mine will be like going from Shakespeare to Jackie Collins………..bugger! I will do my best to take you around with me and I hope you send me your honest opinion to me via the blog thingy. Until then, I wish you all the best.
SUE GROHOL – How wonderful that you and your family and friends will be all together on the 14-day voyage and that I get to be part of that family even if it is just for 14 days. Let me know what else I can do for you and all the best until then.
ERIC F – You are correct that the new schedule does indeed show Paul Santley on vacation and that the new Cruise Director will be Brad Calabrese (Irish ?) I have never met Brad as you requested some more information about him I will ask Chris Prideaux to get in touch and have him send me a biography for you and you should have that soon. I am positive though that if he has been entrusted as the cruise director of the Carnival Triumph he must be an exceptional talent. I will let you know more very soon. Cheers mate.
LISA AND ELAINE – I also had never heard of any cruise line having free drinks at sail away………..oh well. Thanks for saying thanks to Heidi for looking after me and I hope that’s the last time that particular ailment hits me……..I was a big baby I know but oh boy was it nasty times in my bathroom.
Hope you are both well and I also hope you continue to enjoy the bog thingy.
JULIE GRANT – The most important part of your wonderful posting was the comments directed towards Barb and Southern Dreams. My three days of illness means nothing to the battle they are going through and how lovely that you remembered them in your prayers. You asked about finding out who the Captain will be on your cruise and if others could find out the same. Although I cannot post a specific schedule on my bog I can make sure if you tell me what cruise you are going on who the Commandante will be. …….so let me know if I can help. Thanks again for your continued support of the blog and once again for your beautiful words of support for others.
TERESA C – 600 photos…..wow that must have been one long dinner. I am sure though they hold so many happy memories for you and I hope they will memories that last a long time. I spoke to Zoltan and if I have your permission I will give him your e-mail address so you can both correspond. Let me know if this is OK and enjoy the memories.
JAMES EMM – Please slap on a posting on or around October 4th and I will take care of your request mate. Cheers.
JULIE GANTT – thank you :)
SUSETTE LOEWENSTEIN – Susette, postings like this mean the world to me and I just wanted you know that it was very kind of you and I hope the blog thingies continue to bring you some smiles.

Now we move to comments and questions from the blog called “Introducing Mr.Luis.”

LFTTNSFCF – Indeed Jon, how correct you are. It is people like Mr. Luis who make this company so special. Thank you for acknowledging him.
M @ RT – I checked with the dining room and they confirmed you are at the 8 pm sitting , I hope this is OK. I remember you of course and for all the wrong reasons I remember Wild Willy as well………….help! You will love these ports and I think Rhodes and Istanbul will be highlights with Ephesus at the top of the WOW list. Then I see you are on the Carnival Splendor and asked if you need to check in again at the end of the first cruise. As you are sailing back to back you do not need to re check in after the crossing. All you will need to do is go down to the gangway and have your photo taken so it reactivates your Sail and Sign card and updates it. If you are staying in the same cabin you have nothing else to do except go ashore and enjoy Dover. I last saw Preston on the same cruise you were on and I miss him a lot and I am glad you got to meet one of the nicest ladies I have ever met in Preston’s mum. I hope I did not miss any of your questions out and if I did please let me know. All the best and see you in a few days…………..I am not allowed to use the W word………Heidi gets annoyed.
JULIE GRANT – How correct you are about the people behind the scenes on our ships; you never know who they really are. Therefore, I thank you so very much for your posting that highlights this fact even more. One thing the crew all has in common is that they are all here to support their families and loved ones and that is why they take such pride in what they do. Thank you again Julie for pointing this fact out and I encourage all guests on every ship to try and get to know one crew member ………I promise it will enhance your cruise so much. All the best Julie.
JANE AND TOM – Your message has been sent and I am sure you will get an immediate response from Jude. Let me know please if there is anything else I can do. Cheers.
BRYAN – There are many more crew members I have ready to interview and some very important people from the industry who have taken their time to answer some of my questions……………….do you have any requests? Let me know and thanks for reading the blog thingy.
MAMAW G – Just in case I don’t get chance to say this again, have a safe trip over here and see you in a few days. Leave me a note please when you board.
MILLIE S – Thanks Millie for your praise of the Carnival crew and see you very soon.
CRUISIN SUE – Great stuff. I am so happy you enjoyed Todd and I have passed your comments on to him. Hope you had a great cruise and see you in a short while for another great cruise vacation.
GIRLDOC – Hope you are enjoying the Carnival Destiny and how kind of you to write while you are onboard. You asked how long it takes for a ship to recover the cost of the building and the honest answer is……….I haven’t a clue but I will ask those who will know and get back to you. Let us know when you are home and have a wonderful time.

Now we answer some of those comments from the blog called “Mum’s Shepherds Pie”

MR.VANQUISH – If there is one thing that can take away the blues of a ruined Aston Martin it is my Mums Shepherds Pie. Have you thought about another Vanquish?
BIG ED – I am going to ask the Chef onboard to cook this for us during the Bloggers Cruise so we can sit in a booth and enjoy it together. Mum and dad will indeed send a photo so we can add to the album. Hope all is well with you and Mrs. Big Ed and enjoy the pie. Sorry there was not so much action over the weekend on the blog thingy but I promise to make up for it this week mate.
LFTTNSFCF – Interesting that lamb does not appear as popular in the States as in Europe…………it seems rare that I see it on a menu……….anybody can tell me why ? I hope Mrs. MTSFP gives it a try………it’s delicious especially on a winters night.
THE BEARS…CARL AND BARB – Mum says thank you to you both as well.
LAUREN – Thank you for letting me know Carnival informed you by e mail that I interviewed John Cleese………..big time……maybe one day. Hope you are well and enjoying today’s blog.
MRS MTSFP – Simple answer is my Dad does not like cabbage but you really should try my Mum’s recipe and when Mr. MTSFP’s arms are better he can help.
SUE GROHOL – Let me know how the Pie turns out and there is another one of Mum’s recipes coming soon. Thanks also for mentioning the interview with Luis. He is a very special man and I am glad he had some limelight which after such great service he deserves so much.
JULIE GANTT – What is bubble and squeak? It is basically an old English dish that was invented in the shipping town of Southampton when the old sailors would come ashore and spend as little as possible on food and as much as possible on drink and ummmmmmmmmmmm……….entertainment. Anyway, it is mashed or boiled potatoes mixed up with vegetables and then fried and it’s fantastic. Don’t knock it until you have tried it and then let me know………oh, as for Spotted Dick ……well that’s another long story and I can share it with you if you want so let me know. Enjoy the Bubble and Squeak and you must have baked beans and oh yes…………open a window.
BILL – ZYDECOCRUISER – Ahhhhhhhh yes, I knew you would add a little zest to Mum’s recipe and the hot sauce sounds perfect. However, my stomach would welcome hot sauce like a Vegas casino would welcome OJ Simpson at the moment. Hope you had a great Carnival Fantasy cruise and welcome home mate.
KATHIE – Wonderful comments and if there is one thing that can get Jeff through College it will be a taste of your cooking so how kind that you are doing that for him………..send me some as well :) Your words of kindness will mean a lot to Mr. Luis who I will show all the comments to so thank you in advance for bringing an even bigger smile to his face. My best to Jeff and enjoy the Pie.

OK, got to stop there and will continue with the Q and A tomorrow starting with the ones from the blog called “It came from outer space.”

Well, the couple who missed the ship in Venice, Mr. and Mrs. Kurtz arrived safely today and I spoke to them just now. They are quite embarrassed and were worried I would be pointing them out and embarrassing them at the show…………….would I do a thing like that? Seriously, they are really upset with themselves and the fact that they missed a whole day of cruising and the extra travel costs they endured. I assured them I would not be involving them in the show tonight and I hope they enjoyed the bottle of wine I sent them for dinner.

Halloween is just around the corner and carnival Cruise Lines has gone into…………well…………read for yourself what we are doing.

CARNIVAL, M&M’S® TEAM UP FOR ‘FRIGHTFULLY FUN’

HALLOWEEN PROMOTION ABOARD ‘FUN SHIPS’

Month-Long Festivities to Include Costume Contests, Trick or Treating, Themed Giveaways and More

And with the “Frightfully Fun” promotion, guests sailing with Carnival can enjoy a variety of fun-filled activities, everything from costume contests and Halloween-themed giveaways to scary movies, and, of course, trick or treating, with candies and other goodies from M&M’S®.

Guests sailing on Carnival during the period are encouraged to bring their costumes and they can compete for a variety of prizes during the always-interesting costume contest and parade.

Carnival crewmembers will be dressed in costume, as well, and guests can have their photos taken with Carnival’s own “Fun Ship” Freddy.

Guests ages one to 14 are also invited to go trick or treating along the ships’ promenades and through various public rooms and areas, stocking up on M&M’S® signature candies, including MILKY WAY®, SNICKERS®, SKITTLES®, STARBURST® and TWIX®, all along the way.

“At Carnival, Halloween is always a special occasion and the ‘Frightfully Fun’ festivities provides guests of all ages with a unique and memorable way to celebrate this festive holiday, with activities and other events not found anywhere else,” said Vicki Freed, Carnival’s senior vice president of sales and marketing.

Carnival Cruise Lines, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), is the largest and most popular cruise line in the world, with 22 “Fun Ships” operating voyages ranging from three to 16 days in length to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, New England, Canada, Bermuda, Europe and the Greek Isles.

The line currently has three new ships on order – the 113,300-ton Carnival Splendor, set to debut in Europe July 13, 2008; and the 130,000-ton Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic, scheduled for delivery in October 2009 and June 2011, respectively.

For additional information and reservations, contact any travel agent, call 1-800-CARNIVAL or visit carnival.com.

So, anyone sailing on a Carnival vessel within the above time frame is assured of an unforgettable time ………..BOO! Oh, and we won’t be telling jokes like this.

Yesterday, something special happened. We held our first ON THE DECK FOR THE CURE WALK and it was a very emotional time.

We all met at 4:30pm on the Lido Deck by the main pool. There were hundreds of people wearing the shirts and the pink wristbands and there was already a special something in the air. I then asked the guests on deck to applaud each other for being there and supporting this great cause and everyone on deck stood and applauded. Then I brought forward seven ladies who were breast cancer survivors and one young lady who was undergoing treatment and would return to it as soon as she returned to San Jose. Her name is Tara and as she came to stand next to me the audience all applauded once again. She responded by taking off her hairpiece and revealing her shining bald head and the audience cheered again…………….Tara is only 31 (you can see her sitting next to me in the photo)

Before we started the walk I invited everyone to dance as the band played “Louis Armstrong’s …..Wonderful World”……….many tears were shed as people remembered loved ones. Then, it was up to the jogging track where we took a group photo (not easy with over 400 people) and then the walk began. We had sold out of the shirts and I had even given mine to someone as well. The walk raised a lot of money. Even now, people are still donating and I will give you the final figure at the end of the cruise.

I hope that it also raised hope for Tara and the many others who have and unfortunately will continue to suffer from breast cancer and maybe we have helped make a difference in some small way. One thing is for sure. As long as I can I am going to keep this event onboard for as many cruises as I can ……………………….for Tara.

Goodnight

As you may know during the coming months the Fantasy class of ships will undergo many new and exciting changes. The first of these vessels is the soon to be renamed Carnival Inspiration.

Here then is the first of three special reports live from the scene. Our reporter is my mate Preston Bircher who I have known for 15 years. Preston started as an Entertainment Technician onboard and is now based in our Head Office in Miami. However, he spends very little time there as he can usually be found in shipyards and on new buildings designing and supervising the installation of our entertainment staging, sets, lighting and designs. So, here is Preston’s first report ON THE CARNIVAL INSPIRATIONS EVOLUTION OF FUN.

Preston Bircher

Dear John:
I’m here on the Fun ShipTM Carnival Inspiration in Charleston, South Carolina at Detyens Shipyard for the renovation and installation of new shows in the Paris Lounge. (Where we’re removing ceilings and walls to make the stage bigger and upgrading all the technical to be ready for the next generation! And adding many safety features for the security of the cast, band and stage-crew environment.)

I heard that you wanted to know how things are going… so here you go!
There was excitement here in today as the steel for the supports of the White Water Waterslides arrived today from Vancouver. All of the fiberglass slide portions are just entering the city limits. It seems that “Evolutions of Fun” is becoming a reality!

You can see by the pictures that I’m sending you that the deck-11 aft (Verandah) is all cleared and ready for all the substructures that will make up the Carnival Water Works Spray Park. The hole where the small swimming pool trunk was is being decked-over, as are the two penetrations for the former Jacuzzi tubs were. All the teak decks were removed and saved for reuse. I was in the pier-side warehouse yesterday – the size of some of the structures are huge! It’s going to be an amazing place.

Forward on deck-10 around the Lido Patio Pool – the old slide is long-gone. As it the former “scruppers” that surrounded the main pool. Now it’s all open and ready for water to cascade over and creating a “wet beach” area surrounding the pool. The two Jacuzzis are going to have hut-like roofs over them. And the Italian stretched-canvas structure will replace the hand-crank mini-cover that used to cover the stage.

Also around the Lido Patio Pool two large spiral stairs were just installed. That’s going to make the entire Lido and Verandah area so much more maneuverable! (not to mention that the Bar Waiters can get to the deck-11 area easier and faster!)

Another upgrade is the new and much larger Camp Carnival. It’s going where the ping-pong tables were on deck-11 (Verandah) forward – just aft of the Atrium. Then to make sure there is even MORE space to work on your tan, they’re adding a wrap-around deck outside the new Camp Carnival.

Spa Carnival is 100% all new. An all new reception with water feature. Aerobics & weight area is all new – actually the aerobics is being relocated to where the Jacuzzis were… and the skylight being removed to make space for the improved golf-swing cage (which is a part of the new City Sports Park – miniature golf!). All of the dark-red tiles are being removed and replaced with light-colored tiles… new changing rooms with beautiful wood lockers and seating space.

The treatment rooms are completely new. All ready for the staff to bring in all new treatments – so that the Carnival Inspiration can offer many of the same treatments that are offered on the larger Destiny/Conquest/Spirit-classes of vessels.

And I can’t forget the re-branding of the eight Fantasy-Class ships. No longer are their names different from the rest. The m/s Inspiration is now going to be known as the m/s Carnival Inspiration! I’m also attaching some pictures of where the name “was” on the bow of the ship – and with the logo on deck-12 over the life boats. (Also a few interesting pictures of the steel letters sitting on the pier ready to be hoisted up and welded to the ship’s hull.

Then there’s the largest project on the ship – the rebuilding of the 1,026 staterooms and cabin corridors. All new cabin interiors, flat-panel televisions and new bathroom modules! Now that is one huge undertaking. Don’t forget that most all of the contractors are living on the ship as well. So it is a very tightly choreographed ballet of accommodations.

New dining rooms, removal of fixed seating in the Candlelight Aft Lounge for larger dancing space and Group Meetings.

I must say that to keep all of the crew and contractors happy, Hotel Director Ron Ness, and Food & Beverage Manager Luis Alvarez, have made sure that the Coffee Shop is open all day – you know we all need are espressos and iced-mocaccino-non-fat-latte drinks to keep us going! In addition to the water stations placed throughout the vessel, there are portable iced soda stations placed around the vessel so that contractors on short breaks can grab an iced cold soda or bottle of San Pellegrino (many Italian contractors) to quench one’s thirst. And to top it all off… the ‘Crew Lounge’ is also open extra all-day hours that is located next to one of the specified smoking areas. A happy crew is a good crew!

Well… I will start sending some pictures soon!
Give my love to Heidi and all the gang there on the FunShipTM Carnival Freedom! See y’all when you get to Miami!
Preston

I am all backed up!

No, no that……………..far from that actually……………..I mean all backed up with things to tell you so lets start as quick as we can.

Good Afternoon from Venice Italy. It is 4:34pm and we are waiting for 18 guests who have just 25 minutes to get here otherwise they will have an extended stay in Venice……………….actually, a live update its now 14 guests missing.

Let me waffle for a moment starting with my favorite subject ………… me………….no, just kidding but I want to thank all of you so very much for your kindness in asking how I am feeling. This thing really got me and even today I feel quite weak, however I am checking my sugar level and feeling better everyday………………thanks again for all the kind comments.

I made a decision a few days ago to change the mid-cruise shows to pre dinner timings for the late sitting. This means tonight and tomorrow at 7 pm the late sitting guests will see the shows before dinner rather than wait until 10:45 pm. We will move the shows back to normal on the next formal night……………………..ok, 9 missing now………………….make that 7 missing……….looking good……………..anyway back to the shows. I know this will maybe not make one or two guests happy but with the older demographics and after speaking to many of them I think it’s the right thing to do………………OK, this is live feed here……..I feel like Chloe from 24

EXIT 7427 ALDERMAN BARBARA
EXIT 9234 KURTZ TINA
EXIT 9234 KURTZ GREGORY

When this happens I page the guests and ask if anyone traveling with them and if so to let us know if they have a cell phone so we can call. For example 9 and I am writing this as the news breaks) Robert and Bonnie went to Murano on their own and they do have a cell phone ……………. but…….it is switched off……………….they must have learnt that from Heidi………..I mean what is the point of her having a phone and even when it is switched on its buried in a bag the size of a Cadillac and she can’t hear the bloody thing. Anyway, it is now…………oh, hold on ………ok, 5 people just arrived and from reports they were very scared that they would miss the ship…………right…………..let me page the last two guests……………………..

THE KURTZ FAMILY……………………still no sign…………………Captain wants to leave because of traffic………….mmmmmmmmm.They have 5 minutes to get here.

So, what else. ……………..today was very special as Heidi and I went to visit the Emerald Princess here in Venice……….. (the Captain just turned the engines on)………and WOW, what a gorge……….hold on………you will have to wait for my full review and photos which will becoming your way next week sometime……………..I absolutely am positive you will enjoy a step aboard the Emerald Princess.

Right, its 5 pm and Margi the Chief Purser has just called me on the radio to say that they are not here……….we are pulling the gangway ………….leaving one out. The Pursers are preparing the paperwork which by law we must do and our agent Anna will stay and wait until they arrive…………if they do………….still no sign.

Let’s do some photos……….quite a few today.

Southampton cruise company wins prestigious travel award

Southampton based company Carnival UK has won the Travel Company of the Year award for the second year running at a prestigious ceremony held last night by Travel Trade Gazette, the travel industry’s leading weekly magazine.

The award was voted for by travel agents and by a panel of industry experts. Carnival UK was up against some of the UK’s largest tour operating groups, such as Cosmos, First Choice, Kuoni, Thomas Cook and Virgin Holidays.

Carnival UK managing director David Dingle said:

“This prestigious award reflects our commitment to service excellence, innovation and the expansion of cruising in Britain. In particular, our recently introduced Elev8 cultural change programme which puts the customer at the start and the heart of everything we do captured the imagination of the judges and is already making a major contribution to our success.

“The continued development of our famous brands and our commitment to capacity growth through the forthcoming introduction of beautiful and innovative ships such as Cunard’s Queen Victoria and P&O Cruises’ Ventura put as at the forefront of the surge in the popularity of cruising in Britain.

“I am enormously grateful to the extraordinary spirit and commitment of everyone at Carnival UK, both on board and ashore, in making this achievement possible.”

The award was based on financial performance, marketing, trade relations including travel agent training, product innovation, and consumer relations incorporating customer satisfaction across the four cruise lines P&O Cruises, Ocean Village, Princess Cruises and Cunard Line.

P&O Cruises picked up the award for Premium Cruiseline of the year from a strong group of nominees including Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, MSC Cruises and Princess Cruises.

P&O Cruises managing director, Nigel Esdale said:

“We are delighted that P&O Cruises has been recognised as the best premium cruise line in the UK. The launch of Ventura next April will herald a landmark in contemporary cruising and will bring a new generation of cruisers to the fore.

“The growth we have seen confirms cruising a mainstream holiday choice and highlights that, our future, and with it the growth we will bring to the city of Southampton, is assured.

“It is an exciting time for us all as we look forward to building our future, and our new headquarters, in the heart of the city.”

Time for as many questions as I can answer before Showtime. We start with the blog called “Heidi Here”……….off we go.

GREG BALDASARRI – Hello mate. Thanks for your words of sympathy. I am a big baby when I am ill and unlike a land-based job where you can call in sick, here it is a little different as work is right here. I felt awful letting the people down by missing the formal night shows and parties but unless we were going to hold them in my bathroom there was no way for me to attend. I am so sorry to hear that you lost your Mum to breast cancer and I can only hope that in some small way what we are doing here will help in the battle to find a cure.As for the Heat and my mate Shaq…………..let’s see what this season brings and as much as I respect the Spurs……….I have to say “Let’s Go Heat”……………..that’s ridiculous me saying that as I have a LA Lakers mug on my desk and Heidi is wearing a Dallas Mavericks shirt, both from bloggers. As it is impossible to get a Heat mug or shirt (in my size) in Europe……….are there any Heat fans out there? Greg, I know you must miss Mum so very much and I wanted you to know that Heidi and I are thinking of you this evening. All the best mate.
JULIE GRANT – You are correct that Heidi is a truly wonderful wife to clean up after me although she draws the line at diced carrot ………….why is there always carrot……………sorry, should have warned you that was on the way. I see you are thinking of the Bloggers Cruise and I can tell you it will be amazing. However, if you cannot come on this one maybe you can sail the next time we plan this special event. Oh, you mentioned Jelly Beans, so I wanted you to see this photo.
Jelly Beans
Thanks to Sheryl & Angeline who brought this on board for me this cruise so all the jet pack fuel that Carl and Barb and so many others have sent me now has a distribution system. All the best Julie and let me know if I can help in deciding which cruise you should take.
PEANUTS – Feeling better now mate, not 100% yet. Thanks for your concern. I see you and Heidi both have a hatred for spiders and even though I explained to her that they really can’t hurt you (certainly the ones in the U.K.) she still just about faints when anything with 8 legs comes her way……don’t ever ask her to hold some bagpipes. I wish your Pistons luck but not that much. You asked which sizes Heidi likes her t-shirts …..How kind. Heidi likes small and as for me, the bigger the better. Joan, thanks for thinking of us, you are a very special person.
BIG ED – Just a quick note to say that your constant support of the blog thingy will be rewarded in January. ………you can decide which dress to wear in the shows. Have you heard from Alan yet? Feeling better again and sorry Mrs. Big Ed is mad. I just need to borrow one of her dresses as Heidi won’t let me use hers for our Spice Girls show featuring me, you and Alan.
LOIS I AM FEELING BETTERSKI – Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your concern. Thanks.
CANUCK CRUISER – Just a note in case you read this to say Hope you are having a wonderful time on the Carnival Liberty. Drop us a line when you get home.
DAVE AND BARB – Hello guys. You will be happy to know that I am feeling better today although still a bit drained following my vocal concert in the bathroom. My blood sugar level was up and down like a Yo Yo but is now back to normal. I have had no appetite until today and even than I can only manage a toasted bagel and some slices of turkey. My friend, Mr. Woohoo, had a huge pizza which via e-mail, he told me, was delicious and now the hunger has started to return which is a good sign. Thank you to you both for your concern, it means the world to me.
LONGING 2 CRUISE – I got your message and you are correct, Heidi really did a wonderful job taking over, many thanks for your kind wishes.
DWA 76 – So many people seem to like the sunset pictures that I am going to slap on a separate blog later tonight with the latest sunset photos on them. The On Deck for the Cure walk is tomorrow and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks mate and I appreciate your lovely words.
MARK TWAIN AND A HALF – Thank you for your lovely words for Heidi and she really did step up to the plate while I was laid up or laid down in the bathroom. I see you have been ill recently as well and I hope you are OK now. There is nothing worse than feeling ill and knowing that you are letting so many people down by not being at the shows etc. Anyway, I am on the road to recovery and the though of Mrs. Knee-high taking another cruise is enough to make me head straight back to the bathroom. My best to you and your other half.
A CRUISE BY ANY OTHER NAME – It’s no good, you could tell Heidi that spiders are bringing her a million dollars attached to each leg and she would still run a mile. Hopefully we will know very soon which ship will be in Europe in 2009 and beyond for Carnival Cruise Lines and as soon as PA 007 tells me I will let you all know. I already speak Texan as I was brought up on Dallas…………people often think I look like Bobby Ewing. Take care and all the best.
KATHIE – I will have to wait until next Thursday as this Thursday, well, let’s just say, the only sounds coming from the bedroom were ones resembling a drunk hippo regurgitating a small zebra. All the best Kathie.
EBB TIDE – The sunset photos are very popular and I will post more shortly. I am feeling better and I will be ready to go when you cruise here shortly. Please drop me a line at the information desk the day before the special celebration of your friends and I will be happy to dedicate something special to them. See you soon.
ADIAS ANGEL – I always listen to my wife……just don’t tell her that. Thanks Carla, hope all is well with you.
RUTH JAMISON – I am feeling better Ruth, although it really knocked 7 bells out of me. One of the things I was concerned about, apart from missing the shows, was not being able to post another blog so I will play catch up over the next few days. Thank you for your kind words and it’s always great to hear from you.
NANETTE – Nanni, mucho gracio. I was much sicko. Nowo mucho bettero. Por favor can I havo a biggo huggo?
IVANA – Just a quick note to say thank you so much for thinking of me.
JO MYERLY – Jo, I heard the webcam went down but it should be working perfectly now. You mentioned your comment had not been posted. I am playing catch up so if you do not see that I have answered it in the next few days, please let me know. We miss you both here and thank you again for all your kindness.
LISA AND ELAINE – It’s funny you should mention that ladies, as chicken soup is what I am having for dinner tonight………wish it was my mums. You requested more pictures and more you shall have. Our best to you both.
KEVIN – If you by a Bugatti, can I be the Godmother? I am sure things will work out for you and I am so sorry that your beautiful lady is so badly hurt. I am feeling much better mate and the thought of you getting a new car will make me feel even better. Cheers mate.
SOUTHERN DREAMS – Considering what you are going through in your own life at the moment it touches me deeply that you took the time to ask how I am feeling. What a special person you are. How are you doing? I hope you know Heidi and I think of you always.
LINDA HERNACKI – I am not sure what it was Linda, it could have been the Cesar’s Salad with the anchovies although as I am still feeling drained now, maybe I just picked up a bug. Thank you for your concern and you are correct, that you and Mike and so many others are indeed family and very special people.
LFTTNSFCF – Tea may be the problem, although it’s all I’ve been drinking today apart from water. I have heard about the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels but have never seen them. It certainly would be interesting to see these two perform together. Regardless, I would not like to experience it from actually inside the plane and perform a repeat of the last few days in my bathroom. You mentioned you were stationed at Annapolis. One of the movies we were showing on the big screen for our Love Fest night was of the same name and I just wondered if it was true to life at all. All the best mate and it won’t be long before you are here.
SUSAN B – I am very proud of Heidi, she could be a Cruise Director in her own right. Thank you for saying you missed me and all your kind words.
INEZ – I am glad you are enjoying Heidi’s photographs. She is very talented and took lessons from my Dad who has a Leica camera collection and was able to give her a few pointers. I don’t know where I would be without Heidi, although I certainly wouldn’t be in the doghouse. As a breast cancer survivor, I know this walk on deck must mean the world to you and I promise as we are doing it, we will think of you.
MYRA BUSHNELL – Yep, you are correct. I was away because of the illness and I am sorry I let you all down by not posting a blog for such a long time. The chicken soup will be here soon and hopefully when I wake up tomorrow, I will be back to my old self again. Thank you Myra and our best to you.
PAUL F. PIETRANGELO – A wonderful statement of love for your wife Paul which I enjoyed sharing with Heidi. I am indeed very lucky as are you to have such a beautiful woman stand by me through good times, bad times and underwear on the floor times. I hope you are well and our continuing best wishes to you.
POPCORN GAL – Feeling much better but certainly not ready for popcorn. I am glad you enjoyed the interview with John Cleese, it was one of the most special moments of my career. I hope you are fit and well and I am sorry there was a delay in me blogging.
MRS. MTSFP – It seems that your husband and I need to organize a “fly off ” between the Red Arrows and the Blue Angels. You can be on the top deck and the 2 Johns will wave at you from below. See you very soon
VICKI – We have never seen the famous green flash sunset together although Heidi says she had, Heidi also said she has seen the Lochness Monster, Bigfoot, and George Hamilton……naked………so, who knows? Glad you are enjoying the photos and yes, I am feeling much better. Many thanks.
BARB HANNAH – Heidi says Thank You for your thank you. You mentioned the cruise on the Carnival Freedom on January the 12th. I will be preparing the ship for the Bloggers cruise, but Todd will be the Cruise Director. I have never driven a Corvette; however, it is on my wish list to do. Your owner’s club show sounds a lot of fun; maybe you can share a picture or two. All the best and drive safely.
PEGGY – Yep, that was me on the Carnival Legend and the only time I have ever or will ever wear a kilt. The only good thing is that it allowed me to fulfill my Dad’s statement of “Where you be let the wind blow free”……..it wasn’t a good day to be wearing shiny leather shoes to see the reflection of my ……never mind. See you in 38 days.

We now move to a few questions and comments from the blog featuring the John Cleese interview.

LAUREN – Thank you Lauren, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
NANETTE – Nanni, the hardest thing about the interview was that we were using a satellite telephone and there is a slight delay that sometimes means you speak over each other. It was so much fun and making my hero laugh 3 times was one of the highlights of my life. I am glad you enjoyed hearing my voice again and I wish I could hear yours. All the best and thank you very much for being such a wonderful friend.
SUE GROHOL – My mum’s cure for feeling ill (raw egg, Brussels sprouts etc) luckily could not be reproduced here but I am starting to feel better. I am glad you are enjoying the photos and there will be lots more great photos to come. Thanks Sue and I thank you also for reading the blog thingy.
JULIE GRANT – Thanks for the nice words about the John Cleese interview. It was a brilliant 30-something minutes – one that I will never ever forget. I am happy that I could share them with you all. All the best and please keep reading the blog thingy.
LINDA HERNACKI – What a great posting and I am humbled by your words of support. You will be happy to know that Roberto is putting together some video clips of the interview which should be posted very soon. Maybe I should think about making a DVD as you suggested ……..certainly something to think about. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the interview and keep smiling and see you soon.
KEVIN – Thanks mate……….that brightened my day.
SHELLYP – A lovely posting Shelly and how gracious of you to think of our Indonesian crewmembers who may have had families hurt in the recent earthquake. So far, we have not received any news to say that this is the case and if that changes Carnival will as always look after the crew and make sure they get home safely and quickly. Thank you again for thinking of them. You mentioned the tendering situation in Dubrovnik and the fact that this call we no longer have to use the. The simple reason was that they had room for us alongside the pier and it is now another lines turn to be at anchor and use tenders. This will be like this for the rest of the season…………….yipeeeeee. Thanks again for your comments and I hope you continue to enjoy the blog thingy.
PAUL F. PIETRANGELO – I am honoured that you enjoyed hearing my voice and I hope we hear each others very soon. I am so happy that you enjoyed the interview with John Cleese and it really felt like I was talking to someone I had known for years. What a lucky man I am. I hope you do buy his book as it really is a wonderful insight into families and how to survive the rollercoaster ride they sometimes give us. Thanks Paul and hope to hear your voice one day soon.
KAREN R – feeling a bit better today Karen and I hope you find time to listen to the whole interview with John Cleese. The sunset photos are indeed gorgeous and there are more coming very soon. My best to you and tell your husband to join you off the deep end.
KIM – .Thanks so much Kim.
CARL – Here is another classic Cleese quote taken from Fawlty Towers….speaking to his wife Cybil who is annoyed at his loud classical music being played. “Turn that racket down”………………. “Racket……….that’s Brahms…………..Brahms’ third racket “.
CATMAMA 044 – Glad you enjoyed the interview and I am glad to say I am on the mend. Thank you so much for your concern.
FRANK C – Miss you very much mate. Wish you were here too.
Did you have a good journey home?
BIG ED – Yep, that was me on the big screen, doing my shows. I am definitely feeling lighter but it’s not a diet I would ever recommend.
DEB ROWE – Welcome back home, however, I was so sad to read about the terrible incident you suffered in Rome. I have made sure that this story is passed on to all future guests and I know that all the readers of this blog who will be traveling to Rome in the future will also appreciate. It is a shame that your wonderful vacation came to an end in such a way and I am truly sorry this happened to you. Please don’t feel too bad as many more people have and I am sure still will, fall in to the same trap. All our best to you down under and hopefully the memories of your cruise will bring a smile to your face.
DWA76 – I am not sure what it was mate, it certainly felt like food poisoning but it could also have been the dreaded NV. Enjoy the interview and I am really happy I can share it with you.
LUV CRUISIN – Feeling better now and thank you so much for the kind and considerate words.
LOIS HERESHEISAGAINSKI – It really did feel like I was talking to a friend. Like you, I am excited that Mr. Cleese will be in the new Pink Panther movie. How are you today? Heidi loved the idea of being rewarded for looking after me with some Spa treatments. I hope I am not sick again; it is too expensive. All the best Lois.
LEESA – Thank you so much for your wonderful words for Heidi. She really is such a great help and a wonderful wife. If you get a chance to find John Cleese’s books in audio format I think you will really enjoy them. Have you ever listened to Fawlty Towers? If you buy them let me know and I will help you through each episode. Thanks again and continued best wished from us both.
BIG ED – Maybe Heidi and I will go to Harry’s but at the moment the only thing I really need is a large cork.
DAVE SOREFF – Can you believe it mate, I got to interview John Cleese. Tim Cabral, whose name you mentioned is in fact working in our head office and is in charge of Group Technical Functions. I will forward this to him, I am sure he will be excited to hear from you. Did Doug ever see the photos? Hope all is well mate. Hope to see you soon.
INEZ – Glad you enjoyed the interview. I hope it brought you some smiles.
RAY MCTEAGUE – I really was in the doghouse for Heidi having to sleep on the couch resulting in her stiff neck………oh well. I am glad you enjoyed the interview with John Cleese and you are right, we could have spoken forever. What a thrill. All the best Ray, it’s great to hear from you as always.

We now move to just a few comments and questions from the blog called “Feeling Better”.

DWA76 – The comments from our RCI fan were quite amusing but she picked the wrong day and the wrong blog to bring them up to me. I hope the Cowboys have a great season and American Football is so popular in the U.K. now that the BBC for the first time, show the games live. Let’s hope they use American commentators as we Brits know nothing. I had a football position close to my mind in the last couple of days as I had a “loose end” and hopefully tomorrow I will have a tight…….never mind. Cheers mate.
KEVIN – The Bentley GTC is driven by my hero George Hamilton and is the ultimate tanning machine. However, I still hope you consider the DB9 convertible. As for the Enzo, all I can say is, not exactly the car to take to the shops but you are right, it is something very special. A friend of mine has just bought the Mercedes ML 63 AMG and says it’s the best car he’s ever driven. For me though, once you have driven an Aston, it’s like finding Catherine Zeta Jones and Angelina Jolie want to go skinny dipping with you and you decide you prefer a moonlight swim with me and Big Ed. Your thoughts?

And with that I will leave it there and continue tomorrow with more……………..much more.

So………………what ever happened to the Kurtz’s? It seems that eventually arrived back to the pier at 6:30pm one hour and a half after we sailed. The agent said that they were contacted by the port police and when she spoke to them they said “they were told that the ship was staying 2 nights”…………………..so that’s them on a train and a ferry to Messina and not before they do indeed get to be in Venice for two nights ………………………….I will call them as soon as they come on board and make sure they are ok.

You will be happy to know that as planned I advertised for a Minister and a Rabbi in the Capers this week. Some of you had passed this suggestion to me and you know what…………..it worked. We had a retired Rabbi ……Mr. Freyberg who led the Jewish New Year service on Friday and tomorrow Pastor Mincieli will conduct an Interdenominational service………….I owe you a great deal for this everyone and I think Roger Blum may suggest that we place this line in the Capers on all of our ships…………I think it really may help…………..not all the time………….but some of the time and we of course will bestow gifts upon those who help.

I am truly hoping I am feeling 100% tomorrow as I have such a busy day including a Morning Show (I have 47 dedications to read out) followed by a travel talk and Q and A. Then it’s the Marriage Show and the shows in the evening. The most important event of the day tomorrow however is the On The Deck For The Cure Walk. As mentioned we sold out of every shirt and wrist band and have 450 people who donated and hopefully most will show up for the walk.

Leading the 1st lap will be one of our dancers Richard who lost his Mother to cancer in June this year…………..I know this day will be very special for him and so many others.

As mentioned yesterday I will be posting the interviews separately from now on and we have another fine Carnival employee to highlight today.

As a bonus, you will also see a new section called “Live from our Reporter.” This will be an ongoing section from our roving reporter Preston Bircher………………..I will explain when I post his report.

OK, its nearly Showtime and time to get dressed…………..I mean in a suit…………I am not naked now …don’t start screaming and calling 911 or 999 (Brits)…………….I mean properly dressed. This will be the first time in 48 hours I have been on stage. I managed the Morning Show yesterday but that was done in the studio but tonight, that’s me back out with the guests even though my stomach feels like someone just built a Jacuzzi inside me and the pressure on my ribs is the same pressure I felt when Fatima gave me the good news with her bendy pipe.

But before the show I have this guest to chat with

Subject: WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON TITANIC THAT NIGHT?

Hello John,
Just something curious
I met a guest who told me that he knows “The real story of the Titanic ??!!! ” and he says it is urgent that he tells you tonight…….he is at the desk waiting he won’t leave the lobby until you see him please

Hi name is Mr. _________
Regards
Alex
First Purser

I can’t wait to here this one and of course I will share his story with you…………stand by.

OK, I just got off the phone after what I can only describe as one of the strangest conversations I have ever had. According to this guest ……….AND YES…….I SWEAR THIS IS TRUE………..The Titanic was not sunk by an iceberg but in fact was destroyed by ……………….something from Outer Space……………….I don’t know the whole story because he wants to tell me and the Captain in person because he says the same could happen to this ship……………..and he has proof. Now before I wrote this I had left Stephen’s last name and cabin number on the blog but as I am about to suggest that Stephen may indeed not have both oars in the water I though I had better take his name out. The guest has all his faculties (I thought I would check before making assumptions) in fact he told me he was a retired Civil Servant. He lives in Hamilton, Ontario Canada and says he knows it sounds “unreal” but when we meet tonight all will be explained……………….I can’t wait !

I will take a few witnesses with me for this one as nobody will believe me.

Thanks again for all your get well messages and I want to tell you all about…………..what was that noise……………..what’s that outside…………oh know ………..its some sort of flying iceberg saucer thing………….its heading straight for us………oh no…….its landed on Lido deck……………..people are screaming…………running away from the buffet (that’s a first)…………..suddenly ……….a door opens……………..and a brilliant light shines down blinding us all……………..and …………oh no………..something evil, something disgusting …………….something sickening starts to float down from the ice ship……………it’s holding a weapon……….it’s long and thin and designed to bring pain to us all……………quick…………run for your lives………..it’s Fatima !

Goodnight

Your friends

John and Heidi

Shepherd’s pie is another regional favorite. Whilst some would tell you that a Shepherd’s pie is made with beef, the traditional recipe uses lamb.

Feeds: 4

Time to cook: Approximately 45 minutes

Take…

Lean minced lamb
Onion
Carrots
Flour
Tomato purée
Worcestershire sauce
Stock
Potatoes
Parsnips
Savoy cabbage
Butter
Milk

Make…
1 In a non-stick pan dry fry 450g(1lb) lean minced lamb with 1 onion, chopped and 2 carrots, peeled and diced until the mince is browned. Stir in 15ml(1tbsp) flour, 15ml(1tbsp) tomato purée and 15ml(1tbsp) Worcestershire sauce. Add 450ml(3/4pt) stock, bring to the boil and cook for 5-10 minutes until the carrots are just soft.

2 Meanwhile in a large pan place 675g(11/2lb) potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks, and 2 parsnips, peeled and cut into chunks. Bring to the boil and cook for 20 minutes or until soft. During the last 8-10 minutes of cooking time add 250g(9oz) Savoy cabbage, shredded, to the pan. Once cooked drain and mash with a knob of butter, milk and season well with salt and pepper.

3 Transfer the mince into an ovenproof dish and spoon the bubble & squeak mash over the top. Cook in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Eat…

Serve with………. peas or baked beans but don’t let John or his Dad have baked beans

Enjoy the food

John’s Mum

Feeling Better

It was around 11:30am yesterday afternoon that I new something was not quite right. Now before I continue writing some of you may want to skip the next few lines but as we are friends I feel I need to tell you everything.

I was in the middle of my travel talk for Venice when I started to feel a little strange. My stomach was sounded like some Tibetan Monk was chanting inside it. Anyway, I ignored it carried on and after my talk and Q and A I went for lunch. I had a Caesar salad with chicken and went back to work.

After lunch I returned to the blog and then at around 2:30pm it started…………there was no warning………..just that feeling and that was me sprinting to the toilet as if someone had told me they were handing out free Aston Martins in the bathroom.

This was an action I was to repeat 7 times yesterday accompanied by many chances to sit down and read a book a friend of mine had given me the day before. I had a fever and I can’t remember feeling worse…….except for the time Fatima stuck that plastic tube up my …..Anyway, I was not in a good place.

Heidi of course looked after me but I was a miserable sod especially as I could not go and introduce the shows and host the Captain’s parties…….I think that is the first time I have ever missed those……………..it made me feel even worse.

Now, some of you may be thinking that I had norovirus but the doctor assures me it was food poisoning as we have had no cases of noro onboard this cruise (touch wood) . So, what caused it? Well, the Doc said it sounded like it was something I would have eaten in the last 12 hours probably from breakfast or from lunch or dinner the night before. We then discussed what the first thing to come up was…………………..LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU ARE EASILY ………WELL………..THIS AIN’T PRETTY.

As soon as he said that I knew exactly what had caused me to do a Bon Jovi impression in front of my toilet………….CAESAR SALAD WITH CHICKEN……………………..AND ANCHOVIES. Certainly there was lots of green during my first deposit and therefore I suspect that one of those cute little fishy things were responsible for my wailing and screaming in front of the god of porcelain.

I didn’t sleep much last night but today I feel much better and I had a banana and toast for lunch and am having chicken soup and a turkey sandwich for dinner. Of course, as I have learnt over the last year or so that being diabetic I need to really watch my sugar levels when I am sick, they are a little higher than usual but so far have been ok.

The only aftereffects of my night of hell are sore ribs from squirming around like a breakdancer on the bathroom floor and my head which feels like a dozen Frenchmen are holding a party in there……………..oh yes, and I ruined my favorite shirt :(

So, where was I when I was so rudely interrupted? Oh yes, I was about to tell you about my day in Naples which I will do I promise shortly but first the news.

Today in Dubrovnik we docked for the first time in three calls and it was a great relief to do so even though I think we got the tender distribution down to perfection. The weather changed as well though and all though it was a beautiful and glorious sunny day it was a chilly start with Heidi returning to the cabin for a jacket saying it was only 66 degrees outside. The temperature did reach 89 by noon but you can tell already that changes are coming.

Just after sailing from Dubrovnik this evening I was called to the bridge. This was strange because we had only just left the pier and as I waited for the elevator (there were stairs but following last nights bathroom fun I couldn’t face them) I heard the thrusters go on and that meant just one thing. Upon arriving to the bridge my theories proved to be correct as we headed back to the pier to disembark a lady who had reported to the infirmary as we sailed. Such was her condition that the doctor felt it necessary that she disembark via an ambulance to take her for immediate medical attention ashore.

So back we went and I let the guests know what was happening. As usual the starboard side of the ship was lined with hundreds of guests anxious to see what was happening. I know I have said this before and I understand the curiosity side of things but I just cannot understand why, when the stretcher was carried down the gangway and onto the ambulance the flashes of cameras were popping as though Catherine Zeta Jones was doing a belly dance on the pier……………….I just don’t understand that bit.

Anyway, and more importantly we all hope this lady will make a quick recovery and I will keep you and the guests here informed.

What else………….oh yes. Here are some wonderful comment from a guest which arrived yesterday via e mail……….luckily Heidi did not show it to me otherwise I in the state I was in I am not sure I would have responded within company parameters.

Good afternoon,
Please see attached guests’ comments

Thank you and regards,

Daniela

Cabin _______ – Drinks on embarkation should be free

Mrs. Irving brought Carnival Cares comment card with following comments:

- Disappointed: embarkation day Sail away time – 2 hr complimentary drink party like all other cruise companies
- Cruise Director – your show last night was juvenile to the extreme and I do not understand why so many people were laughing except the clientele on Royal Caribbean are obviously of a higher standard I hope the entertainment gets better. Why is the show tonight about the Beatles because on Royal Caribbean they have an ice show, why don’t you?
- Décor – Ugly best describes the artwork.
- Food – The people who run your Deli need to come to Brooklyn because your sandwiches are no match for the ones from my hometown
- Staff – Compared to Royal Caribbean very bad as all Royal Caribbean boat staff speak English.

I will come back to this comment later…………………this by the way only after 2 days of the cruise!

Regarding today’s Q and A. It’s amazing how things back up when you are out of order for just one day. Therefore and with your kind permission I would like to ask that you allow me to answer just specific questions as I have 77 on my desk and I want to get this bog posted ASAP. If you don’t see yours answered please post again on this blog as I will return to answering every question and every comment from tomorrow……………………..I hope you understand.

I am going to start these tomorrow in fact before we arrive to Venice after the Morning Show and Repeaters parties as I feel very tired from yesterday’s prayer session in the bathroom ……….oh by the way, Heidi really looked after me and she slept on the sofa partly because she knew I would be up and down all night and because the last thing she wanted to do was listen to both my ends all night.

Wasn’t that nice I hear you say………….yep………………until just now when I was informed that she had a sore neck from sleeping on the sofa and that was my fault and its Thursday and her neck is sore so etc. etc…………….so that’s me back in the doghouse and honestly this is one Thursday I can’t manage. Pierre and his friends are still partying in my head, my ribs ache and the though of any physical exercise tonight doesn’t bare thinking about …………….anyway, have a good night and I will write more tomorrow.

Good morning again. Well, I slept well and there were no evacuations during the night and the only thing that woke me was the sound of Heidi doing the lady snore thing……….the light gentle snoring followed by the smacking of the lips as if she had just finished eating a rather nice meal.

So, let me start with the Q and A and again apologize for not answering …..well ……as above.

LFTTNSFCF – I wanted to start with you and to apologize for cutting you off so rudely but it just so happened that the 1st movement of John’s first Sickphony in C minor occurred whilst answering your question………….please take no offense but that really is true. Returning to the 28th. I think you should just relax onboard. You have a busy day the following day and taking a tour may not be the best way to go after a long flight…………just a thought. You have a brilliant tour the following day in Rome and that will be a highlight as promised. Heidi loves mugs, always has and she particularly likes ones with place names or areas on them but really it is not necessary. See you soon, it is getting close now and best to the Mrs.
MARILYN VISCHIO – Did you get everything sorted? Let me know if you have any further need of help and I will see you in January for the Bloggers Cruise…………it will be the best cruise ever. Oh, by the way, my favorite episode of Fawlty Towers is “Communication Problems”…………reminds me of so many people I have met on the ship.
CAPT. CHUCK – What was the question that didn’t get posted Captain? Please let me know. I know these are difficult times with your Dad so please also know that Heidi and I are thinking about you. Hope to hear from you soon.
SHERIFF ROSCOE P COLTRANE – Happy birthday mate. I hope today’s birthday brings you and Flash a wonderful day and I wish I was there to shake your hand and take you to a Waffle House for some smothered, covered and chunked……….which by the way you could have had in my bathroom two nights ago. Anyway, hope you are well and staying safe and come on….one more time…………..are you ready.
Bad boys bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do when they come for you
Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do when they come for you

M@ & RT – Hello, I don’t remember typing your name in before so welcome to my blog thingy. Let me answer your questions starting with the photo of the Carnival Triumph in rough seas. There has been much speculation that this was photoswapped or photothingied or something was done to change it…………….I can tell you that this is untrue. I was onboard as were 2,900 guests and 1,000 crew. The Captain was Salvatore Rassello and he and I were on the bridge when the Canadian Coast Guard plane flew over us and took the photo they later sent to the ship. Nobody was hurt and the ship was an as strong as 1000 Oxes or one Fatima (see previous blogs) as she ploughed through the heavy seas. You also mentioned about booking dinner reservations and how to do it. When you book a cruise through an agent or through Carnival you can request which dinner seating you want and although not guaranteed we always do our best to try and accommodate you. Obviously, the quicker you do this the better so let me know if you are still unsure. If you have booked a cruise and are due to leave shortly I will try and see what seating you are on. I hope this helps and I will be here as and when you need help. All the best to you and your family.
LINDSEY B – You asked if I will be on a ship leaving from the USA anytime soon. The answer for now is no except of course the Bloggers Cruise which will be on January 19, can you come?
DIVETRASH – Your question concerned the IS managers onboard. Well this area is completely foreign to me but without their assistance this blog would not be here today. We have four I/S people onboard who are in charge of the up keep of all the computers and there are:
Personal computers for Officers and Department Heads = 145 systems. This of course goes along with the running of the mainframe thing and other computer systems onboard. Now, you mentioned the Internet Café which strangely, is not under the charge of our I/S Managers but operated by one of our partners, MTN. This company operates the satellite systems for the majority of the world’s major cruise lines. I noticed that you felt the Internet Café Manager needs to be there more often and I agree totally and I can tell you that fleetwide we have made changes to allow for more assistance in the Cafés. Now, as for the smoking element on the Conquest class ships, you are correct that you must pass through the cigar bar to get there and I know for some that is not a pleasant experience for which I apologize. Anyway, I hope this answers your questions and I see you are counting down the days to the bloggers cruise which I make 127 days to go…………..yippee.
MYRA BUSHNELL – I just wanted to say thank you for the amazing crest you designed and which I have used at the bottom of today’s blog thingy. I want to thank you also for allowing me to share in your website and in your wonderful years of service you gave your country during the Vietnam conflict. I can see how proud you are and I am even prouder that you took the time to design the crest. I wish you and Myra all the best Scott and many thanks for everything mate.
THE BEARS – CARL AND BARB – Great news which we all were so happy to share with you ………the cancer has not returned and for now as you said you can breath again and continue to live your life as you will. Please let me know how the surgery goes and as always we will continue to pray for you. Be strong and Heidi and I will always be here for you.
LANCE AND ILDA – A Bordeaux is a Claret!…………..what would you like your breakfast tray made from, teak, mahogany, oak……………..I mean if I guest isn’t singing Oh What A Beautiful Morning At The top Of Their Voice I think…..Oh, there’s another guest whose snuffed it during the night. I mean this is a hotel not the Burma Railway…………….Is this a piece of your brain? …….Manuel, there is too much butter on those trays …………non, non, Senior ….not on those trays……….uno, dos, tres! Those are my favorite lines from Fawlty Towers along with hundreds more.
PEANUTS – If the Pistons beat my Heat then I will personally go and have another Turkish Bath with Fatima and I will take Shaq and Dwyane with me !
BIG ED – Alan has assured me he will be sending you a photo ………stand by.
KEVIN – Your question was a tough one to answer but I have to go with the DB9 Aston Martin or maybe a Bentley GTC. The Bentley is what the “top dogs” are driving these days including the RAP stars, Hip Hop artists, Sports Stars and George Hamilton. Don’t make a decision until you have test drove all of these and think of me when you do so mate.
RIKKI BOYCE – You are correct I missed one hero from my list of seven ………..oops and the one living hero I missed is the one and only George Hamilton whose dark tanned looks, Rolex watch, Bentley GTC and the fact that he is constantly surrounded by gorgeous women make him my American Idol.
Thanks for pointing this out mate…..I hate math’s.
SHARI – You asked if I would still be on the Carnival Freedom on January 5 but I am sorry to say that indeed I will not be, I actually join on the 12th to prepare for the Bloggers Cruise but fear not because you will have a great time. The Cruise Director for that week will be Todd, who will make sure you have a fantastic time I promise. Hopefully next time we will be able to share in some fun together. I certainly hope so.
DWA76 – If seeing me in a dress makes your day I think you need help mate:) I hate that dress and when I stop doing this job I am bequeathing it to you. All the best David.
LINDA – Nothing yet but I am sure it will be here soon and thank you for thinking of us. I will let you know when it arrives. Hope all is well Linda and we miss you here.
JOHN MILLER – You asked who your Cruise Director will be in January on the Holiday and I am happy to tell you it will the incomparable Steve Cassel. In fact, here is the CD schedule for the rest of the year which I thought everyone might enjoy reading so you can find out who is where. John, if you (or any other blogger) have questions about the Cruise Directors please let me know. Thank you for your kind words and all the best mate.
Cruise Director Schedule
SOUTHERN DREAMS – One can only imagine the distress that the chemotherapy treatment is causing you but yet through all the obvious pain your passion for life and your outstanding sense of humour shines radiantly through. We are all proud of you, we will see you in October and we will have the best cruise ever……………….we will…………..promise. You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers always.
GREG BALDASARRI – Greg, please can you send me your cabin number and date of sailing for the Carnival Conquest mate.
SEWING NUT – What a beautiful story about your son, you must be so proud of him. Jami has some photos so can you send me your address (just mark it to Roberto’s attention) and she will send them to you. I hope your son had a special day as team leader and if he ever needs another medal let me know.
NANI – Don’t worry Nani your package will be here soon and I am so grateful that you sent us something. As for my Spanish person who was mad at me speaking English….where was he from……………..I am sorry to report ………….Miami. Yep, I saw him today at the Coffee shop as I was getting my Tea and he was still quite upset that all the shows etc were in English. I asked him “eh dande ustedes “……….he replied De Cuba…….something…..then he said “Miami”……….anyway I apologized as best I could to Mr. Herrero and I will send him a gift later as I feel inadequate that he can’t understand me or what is happening etc. So, how are things in Puerto Rico and one day please can you give me a Spanish lesson? Much Hugos.
RAY McTEAGUE – Hello Ray and what a great question………….Ray asked “does the management have a turnover before they leave the vessel.” Well Ray the answer is yes they do. Let me give you two examples. When I eventually leave the ship (sometime in 2090) just kidding…………….the new Cruise Director, Todd Wittmer will board the vessel one week before. During this time I will explain all of the ships functions and operations as well as discuss the personalities and abilities of the Entertainment Staff. We also discuss safety procedures and then port specific information. A new Cruise Director will make whatever changes he or she deems is needed and although most CD’s come on and say “I am not going to change anything “the nature of the beast means that they indeed will. Now, as for a position like Chief Engineer, well the turn over there lasts much longer as the complexities of the technical operations of the vessel are massive and usually a two or 3-week handover is sometimes needed. I hope this answers your question and if you can think of anything else please let me know. Cheers mate.
PIGLET – What a cute screen name. I was so sorry to read about your Aunt and her battle with kidney cancer. How wonderful of you to think of taking her on a Carnival cruise next year to help her recuperate from the trials and tribulations ahead. You asked if I would be on the Carnival Freedom in March and as yet I don’t know my schedule for next year. As soon as I do I will make sure you know but regardless, book that cruise and I promise the rest, relaxation and fun that your favorite Aunty will need will be provided by the ship’s company. Many thanks for such kind and sincere words and our thoughts are with your Aunty.
PEANUTS – Congratulations to the girls of the WNBA……….shame the boys won’t do so well. LET’S GO HEAT………..and LET’S GO EAT………… (Feeling better now).
JOHN FRIEDMANN – Just a note to say welcome home…………..we loved having you both with us and I hope your memories will keep you going until the next time. We miss you.
DAVE AND JO MYERLY – The same to you both as above. It was so great to meet you and to see two people so much in love. Thank you for everything and please come back soon.
TERRY CENDEJAS – Welcome home to you and your family and I just passed your wishes to Aleks and Zoltan who were thrilled to hear from you. Get some sleep and then I hope you find some time to read the blog.
MARY ANN – I don’t remember typing your name before so I wanted to say welcome and also say a huge thank you for the beautiful and so kind words you have written today. I will see you soon and yes, I remember the Purser Elisa who did such a wonderful job, please send her my best. Now, you asked about the Vaporetto’s running later in the evening. They run all night until midnight when they run once an hour every hour from 1 am – 5 am when they become more frequent again. Many people do as you mentioned and stay in St.Marks past midnight, take the 1 am Vaporetto which leaves from the St.Marks and returns you to Piazza La Roma and from there it is a 15-minute walk or a shuttle bus (5 euros) will return you home to the Carnival Freedom. Hope this helps Mary Ann and I wish you all the best.
MICHAEL TIETJEN – You asked if I was on the Carnival Legend during 9/11. I was actually on the Carnival Triumph on that terrible day. As some of you have asked I have enclosed a link to a blog I wrote way back in March or April when someone asked me the worst time I could remember as a CD.here it is ………………less we forget.
http://johnheald.wordpress.com/2007/04/02/youll-never-walk-alone/
LAURA ZATZ – Thank you for reading the blog thingy Laura and thank you also for mentioning your friend and now assistant coach of the Detroit Pistons Terry Porter. I know he didn’t have much luck with the Bucks but I am sure he will take the Pistons all the way to the Eastern Conference finals where they will lose to the Heat.
Now, let’s return to cruising and the “five villages tour” I highlighted recently. This tour is brand new and won’t be available until the Carnival Freedom and Carnival Splendor’s 2008 season. A full description of the tour will appear soon on the Carnival website. We will see you in October and let’s chat personally about what tour will be best for you and your family in Livorno. Here is a look at what the Heat boys will be wearing in 2008.
Here is a look at what the Heat boys will be wearing in 2008.
DAYLE WITH A Y – Let me answer your questions mate……here we go.
1. I agree that renting a tuxedo onboard certainly means more space in the suitcases for souvenirs. We will without doubt have your husband’s size and any alterations will be done expertly onboard. It is a great option and one I highly recommend.
2. You asked what the latest time you can leave the ship in Rome is and the answer is 9:30am. By then, we have made last and final call and if you have private transportation arranged I would suggest you organize that for 9 am – 9:30 am as you are in no rush. I hope this helps you and if you need more questions answered I will be here for you mate.
KUKI – How right you were about those photos. It would be amiss of me not to mention how fantastic you and the Cruise Mates group were on the sailing after 9/11. It was thanks to your support that I was able to still provide guests with fun during those awful dark days. Thanks mate and thank you to all the people who sailed with me that week.
SUE GROHOL – I just checked with the Shore Excursion Department and they confirmed that Rome at its Best is indeed running on the 29th. Have you booked a ticket already? Now, as for the rest of the tours there really is no rush to buy as myself and the staff will be here to give you the best advice possible. Thank you for such a wonderful posting and we will see you soon.

That’s it for Q and A today. I will answer every comment and question starting with the ones posted from the blog Heidi wrote called Time at the Computer and then into the one with the interview about John Cleese.

May I just say thank you to every person who took the time to comment on the anniversary of 9/11. Your words were so beautiful and prove that the memories of those lost will live on forever…………………..thank you.

Now, a couple of things. I read an article which Roberto forwarded to me and now I can’t find anymore that said that my blogs were good but too long and that they sounded like a Carnival Commercial………..ROBERTO, PLEASE CAN YOU POST THAT ARTICLE MATE.

Roberto here – here’s the link:
http://www.smartertravel.com/travel-advice/eight-great-websites-every-cruiser-should-know.html?id=2418574

So, I have decided to post the guest interviews as separate blogs as we did with Mr. Cleese. This may take away a bit of the long windiness (that is a word) that I am prone to. Therefore, starting today any additional information such as interviews and my Mum’s recipes of which there is my favorite today, will be posted separately……………..is this ok with you?

Naples, ah yes, it was a beautiful day.

Heidi and I arranged to meet two great friends in Capri. Before I continue, I have to tell you, I cannot tell you who our friends are because they skipped work to be with us for the day. She (we will call her Mrs. Samsonite) works for a packing company while he (we will call him Mr. Woohoo) works in the wine, spirit and food industry. We met in Venice a few months ago and when we mentioned we would be in Naples they said they would both call in sick and come and meet us for lunch in Capri.

Heidi, being Heidi wanted to buy Mrs. Samsonite some flowers which meant trudging around Naples looking for a flower shop. Heidi , being from Holland meant that not just any flowers would do and each petal had to be checked and eventually we left, having spent a million Euros for half a Brazilian rainforest.

As we walked to the ferry, many Italian men looked at me as if to say: “Who is the big guy carrying those very pink and yellow flowers?” I felt very uncomfortable. The ferry ride over takes 45 minutes and Heidi and I enjoyed the fresh air as we and half of Japan sailed to this beautiful island. Once there, we were met by our friends and took an open top ride to the top of Capri.

You can take the funicular, however, do this only if you really want to experience Italian chaos at its best. I have to tell you that the restaurant we went to chosen by Mr. Woohoo was simply the best food Heidi and I have had in a long time and certainly some of the best in Italy. The table had an unusual centrepiece, a basket of fresh ripe juicy tomatoes which immediately takes your appetite to new levels.

Mr. Woohoo ordered tomato with mozzarella, a thin crispy pizza bread laden with more fresh tomato and prosciutto which covered a beautiful fresh melon. Just when we though this was enough, along came a big bowl of fresh salad with a wonderful dressing. Just as I was eating my 18th tomato and savoring the most gorgeous mozzarella I have ever tasted, a huge plate of freshly caught calamari arrived. Mrs. Samsonite and Heidi devoured this in seconds. The restaurant was quiet and it was one of those times that you totally forget that you work on a ship with so many people. And then the main course arrived.

A huge fish, freshly caught and although I can’t remember the name we will call him Rocco The Fish, I assure you he died for a good cause. Accompanying the fish was spicy shrimp and my goodness it was a feast to remember.

The service was the best I have received in Italy and it was though Heidi and I and our friends were famous. Talking of famous, the wall of this restaurant is full of photos of famous people, including; Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Barbara Streisand, members of the Swedish Royal family, various millionaires and billionaires, Dolce & Gabana which is hard to spell when you shop at Wal-Mart but for me, the highlight was seeing a photo of my tanned super hero sitting there at his table next to two very red faced friends (I think they were Dutch), yep, it was George Hamilton.

Anyway, we left to go back to the ship while Mrs. Samsonite and Mr. Woohoo returned to their jobs and hopefully they won’t get in trouble for taking this time off. Especially as Mrs. Samsonite had a lot of packing to do. We are not sure when we will see them again, we had a wonderful day and it was just perfect, right up to the end when Mr. Woohoo pretended he didn’t have any cash and I ended up paying for the taxi. The name of this restaurant, which if you are ever in Capri you must visit is http://www.villaverde-capri.com/en/index.html.

It was a wonderful day and I hope you enjoyed sharing it with us.

While I was sick Heidi proved once again that she is simply the best. I had promoted the On the Deck for the Cure at my travel talk. Later that afternoon as I was reminding myself and the bathroom floor what I had for lunch Heidi was arranging the distribution and promotion of the event………………..bottom line………….we sold out of the shirts and wrist bands and have raised a total of $4,640 in just two hours.

The walk will be on the next sea day and over 350 people will be taking part. Some donated more than $10 and we will be providing photos of the event of course for you all to see. The cure is out there somewhere and maybe we have helped………….just a little………………..for the experts to find it. As soon as we get more shirts, we will do this again and my thanks to Heidi for taking care of everything………and me.

OK, that’s it for now. Coming up is the first of many new guest interviews. You will notice that I am going to include many of the ship’s crew so you can see who they are and what they do. Also, look forward to a very special interview with a president of one of our sister companies and an interview with a man named Rick Meadows who will give you some very interesting insights into the world of cruising. Tomorrow (Saturday) I am going onboard the Emerald Princess. I have been invited to have a look around and I will of course report back to you and share my experiences of what I am sure is a stunning vessel.

OK, got to go as I have a big job to do. In my never-ending journey to help and appease every guest I am off to the main pool to have the water in it frozen so Mrs. Irving can enjoy an ice show………..which will be ……………..skating to The Sugar Plum Fairy serving her free drinks, a sandwich flown in from Brooklyn this morning ….wearing a pink tutu and a Royal Caribbean T Shirt………………………yep. …………………………………..I am definitely feeling better.

Goodnight

So, here it is an interview with the man who has given his life to making people laugh through some of the greatest characters in comedy history. This was the first time I have ever interviewed anyone of international fame and to say I was nervous would be a huge understatement. When I started I had a plan, a set of questions but after a short time I realized that the plan was not needed as we just began to chat about life, religion, comedy, politics and ……….well………..you will see and hear for yourself.

It was an honour to have spoken to the man who gave us Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and so many other moments of comedy bliss. You can downthingy this interview onto an eye pod or do something else that will allow you to hear it by clicking on something or other. I hope you enjoy it…………………there are points within the interview , where, if you close your eyes it really is Basil Fawlty talking to me…………………..it was something I will never forget.

Here are some pictures from the interview.
