Darn it! Another handsome brilliant man who can cook! I lucked out on the handsome brilliant man part, but after 24 years, still negotiating the cooking part. I think if I had more cruises we could negotiate that part. Costa sounds intriguing.!

Perfect timing John on this interview with the C.E.O. of Costa! The Ships and the food sound great (Pene Vodka). We will be trying out the Costa Fortuna at the end of Nov. with our 6 and 8 year old girls. (who have never cruised before). The girls will not know about the cruise until we board. We will be in Lauderdale prior to departure a few days and we are just going to let them know that we are going to a waterslide to spend the day. Surprise! Maybe they might beat my time on the waterslide onboard of 10 seconds. (CARNIVAL GLORY Sept 2004 hurricane Gene Cruise, remember?)
Congrats on your reward!

John
Yes Micha here your old social host coming back to say hi and wish you well!! Think back M.S. Ecstasy, Charlene, Chris Graves, and Micha. I know it has been a while.

I am so tickled to see this blog and of course read about your award, not a surprise to me as working so closely under your command and dirty sharp tongue I know you deserve it.

I am not going to try to fill you in on my life except to say I am breathing, married to beautiful woman which you would appreciate, two little boys, live in San Francisco and do voiceovers for radio and tv for a living. I am getting ready to publish my first book called "Permanent Passenger: My Life on a Cruise Ship," which tells the story of how I got my dream job working on the M.S. Ecstasy and all the great stories from that year. I have published some articles and can't wait for folks to read it.

I so often think back to those times - how well you treated me, Happy Cole, Gene Merola, our laughs, the dancers, etc..

I will put in mail some articles I have written and copy of the book, it will come out in late October and right now I am working my thin butt off to get it publicity. I laugh when I think of the part that I talk about how you always tried to get me to do the lingerie competition on Sunday nights and also the great story where departing crewmembers came to crew office asking for t-shirts swearing you had just called down to confirm with me when there was no call. Sneaky is not the word.

Enough said, you are in my thoughts.

Wow - what a small world of M&A!

In another life, I worked about a billion years for Sperry, that was purchased by Burroughs, which begot Unisys, that spun my division off to Honeywell, that was almost purchased (attempted at least) by United Technology until Jack Welch and his GE ego tried to break the deal up by upping the ante only to be thwarted by the European Union and later to lose even more to his (now) ex-wife.

Small world indeed!

I do believe Carnival Splendor will be amazingly similar to one (I think maybe two) Costa ships of recent history, so there is some connection there.

John, don't you think it would be better if Carnival opened you a P. O. Box in your hometown. Take out the middleman. Things would get to you faster and your home address would still be protected. Fresh fruitcake is hard to take but aged well they say it lasts forever. Things might make it to you in one piece. You know how luggage gets lost when it does not go non-stop. Just an idea but a good one.

I'd love to have his Vodka sauce recipe.
What an amazing interview.
So impressive how he has worked all the way up the chain from such a young age.
I have followed Costa for many years, and I now look forward to following them for many more years after this enjoyable interview with such an honest person.
I do agree that Dubai will be a huge boom for the cruise industry one day.
Thank you,
David
