There is never a rabbit around when you need one

I thought I would share this one with you.

Guest:__________  Ref: ________Owner: (FDMAITRED) Freedom Maitre’D
Cabin: _____  Booking#: _______ Added-Changed: 01/20/08 – 01/20/08

The guest  said that she had been told by her travel agent that complimentary caviar was available every night if requested as the guest is in a cat 11 suite. Purser apologized and explained that this was not the case. Maitre”D Ken was requested to contact her.

Guest then said that on her previous Cunard cruise the Cruise Director had been a professional and that the Cruise Director John was a cheap imitation. Purser apologized and said Mrs ______’s comments will be forwarded to CD.

So that’s me then, brought back down to earth and after all the adoration I am relegated to a cheap imitation. Still, she may have a point as the Cunard Cruise directors are brilliant, swauve……. Suave……..seuve……bugger…how do you spell that word. As for free caviar……well, why would her travel agent say that?……….you know what………they probably didn’t.

Anyway, Ken is serving her Caviar tomorrow night…………..well…………….it’s not quite Caviar………….it will actually be rabbit droppings………..I wonder if she will taste the difference?…………….kidding…….I am kidding…………just in case anyone would actually think I would ever do that………….don’t be silly ………….. where the heck would I get a rabbit from?

My feet are killing me. My ankle especially after the day I have had ……….. maybe its time to see a doctor. Anyway, it has been a great day so far. This afternoon Heidi and I hosted a bloggers game show and then we stood in the lobby and took loads of formal photos with our new friends. We just visited some of the bloggers in the dining room and now its time to go to the show.

Later, I will sit with Tim Gallagher our Vice President of Public Relations and my friends from the press. Tim and I will crack open a couple of Diet Cokes and chat with the press. I think Tim is wonderful and absolutely brilliant at his job and very respected by all the press……….which is no easy task. Anyway, got to go…..Showtime……………back soon.

OK, I am back. The show was amazing, not just because of the huge ovation the cast received but because they were able to perform to such a high standard with the ship moving so much (we are experiencing some rough seas)………….I was very proud of them. It was also quite apt that the show was the New Orleans Tribute “Big Easy?” …………..having decided to hold the Bloggers cruise on the Carnival Fantasy it was sort of a taste of things to come.

I spoke to a non-blogging guest tonight (a Platinum guest) who recently cruised on the Carnival Imagination. He was blown away by the new additions and clearly stated that it had become his “favorite Carnival ship.” This has me very excited to cruise on her next week and finally I can see for myself what everyone else is raving about.

The football games were very popular today, especially the one that’s being played as we speak. I just passed across Lido Deck and there is a great camaraderie between Giants and Packer fans………it’s great to see.
It appears that the Packers with my friend Emm at Quaterback and Heidi as wide catching thingy are doing well and hopefully by the time I have finished this blog they will have won the game and the Samsonite Trophy.

Bugger…………….I just discovered that the Packers have lost and have to pack their equipment for another season. So the Super Bowl will be the Giants and the Patriots……………who should I cheer for?

OK, I am off to the second seating show and then its time to meet the press and then get some sleep before we arrive in Cozumel tomorrow……………………I wonder if they sell rabbits?

  3. John,
Being the true Red Sox fan that you are, you have no choice but to cheer for the Patriots. Glad to see the “Stupid Guest Complaints” have begun.

  4. Hi John,

I loved catching up on the blog today. I’ve been out of touch because of surgery on my foot. It sounds like your having problems similar to what I had, but this surgery is supposed to take care of my foot pain problem and I will be fit and ready for our cruise in April. I hope you will be there! If not, I know we will have a awesome time. I’m a little worried about the weather. I hope the ocean will be kind and not be too rough. Good ole motion sickness. Enjoy the Bloggers Cruise! Sounds like its fun so far. We are counting the days and cursing the snow. HA!!

  5. Hi John and Heidi,

It’s great reading the blogs from the blogers cruise. Again, your blogs help me become a part of this special cruise. I only wish I could be there. Our friends from our Oct 16th Freedom Cruise are sailing with you – Doug and Nicki G.

Maybe you need a butler to serve some Grey Poupon with Cat 11’s Caviar??

Thanks for the day-to-day blogs from the Bloggers Cruise!!

    My best to you both

    Your friend,
    Deborah (Travelady)

  6. John–There’s no contest. Cheer for the Giants! The Patriots are undefeated this season. I know you want to cheer for the underdog team. We will convert you on Imagination next week to our way of thinking! Glad your cruise is going well….hope the ankle feels better!

  7. John, Mrs. Caviar could not be more wrong about you, you are the perfect and best cruise director ever. I have sailed on Cunard twice and I do love the ship and the staff they are great, but frankly I was very bored with the shows and entertainment or should I say lack of entertainment, it was more like stuffy and boring. Cunard would be so lucky to have a cruise director like yourself. Just keep being the amazing cruise director and person that we have all come to love and enjoy. Have a great day!

  8. Looks like everyone is having fun – that’s great! Hope that the seas will calm down – get better soon Roberto!!!
    GO PATS!!!!!!!!

  9. The Freedom “guest” that lodged the complaint is what we call the “starfish” variety.

This is a term that I coined for someone who is being unreasonable. Generally when writing a review. You know the kind. They give no specific complaints … just generalized rants and exaggerations.

On Cruise Critic, I stated that they are just someone with a starfish up their fanny…and the term stuck. (no pun intended)

So ignore the starfish and enjoy all these wonderful folks who booked this cruise just to sail with you!!!

  10. Would you like me to send you a hare or two?

  11. Will John;

Sounds like things with some passengers are back to normal. They must think you all just fell off of the turnip truck. I have never seen anything great about eating fish eggs, I guess its just me. Since I don’t see any other comments on the blog yet, I felt obligated to make one. Folks need to remember, you may be cheap, but your no push over. (Your really not cheap either.)

    Bob

  12. Thanks for the blogs. I am glad you got a much deserved vacation, but am so happy to have my daily blog fix again.

Mrs. _______ not know how lucky she is. Tell her there are thousands of us out here that wish you were going to be on our cruise.

    More pictures please!!!

    Hi to everyone.

  13. John,

Your blog is getting mentions over on CC just as you’re giving CC mentions over here! You’re GROWING!!!! Once we get a taste of your wit, wisdom, and humor — it’s intoxicating… We can’t get enough… We keep coming back for more!!! We can’t get enough!!

You ARE Back in the Saddle again!! Thorns, warts, complaints and all!! You’re a CD!!! A problem solver!!! A miracle worker!!! A Superman in a tux!!!

    Best regards to all!!!
    Kirsten

  14. John,
Please tell us which of our blogger friends are in the photos with you so we can put a name with the face. Also, I just looked at the web cam and it doesn’t look like the weather has improved. Too bad! Hoefully it will be better in Jamaica.
    Thanks, Sheryl

  15. Hey John,

Got to tell you that you must heer for the Patriots. I lived in Massachusetts for 6 years watching them lose everything every year. They have now actually become a team. And my sister-in-law works at a sports bar in Boston, and she really needs the tips.

Hope your ankle is feeling better. Looking forward to more pics of the goings on this week.

    Kevin

  16. John,
No Caviar, you son of a b^$#h! BigMike’s response of he were Cruise Director, “Who likes caviar besides rich a$$holes anyway, you’re on a cruise, you can continue your caviar binge when you get home.”
    Have a good one,
    BigMike
P.S. Doesn’t that fall under Big Ed’s Responsibility as Asst. Cruise Director?

  17. John,

Just tell Ken to sing her an old blue eyes tune, and I’m sure Mrs. Cat. 11 will be so amazed by him that she won’t even pay attention to what he served her!
As for football…I’m still trying to figure out what happened with my team, the Chiefs. This season was a “rebuilding season” for us – as the past few years have been. Until we come back, I must say Go Patriots!
I hope the weather gets better for you all!

  18. Dear John & Heidi,

I just had to write to tell you how much I enjoy your bloggy thing. The first one I read was of your plane trip from Italy to London and I laughed so hard that eventually no sound was coming out! My husband thought I was having some sort of attack, and I was…but it was a good attack of humor. Sorry about the weather there, but it is 33 degrees here, and well, I am seriously envious.
    God Bless,
    Jane

  19. Kevin can I get your travel agent’s name…

  20. Hi John,

Mrs. Caviar, huh? It’s like you never left the ship.

As for the Super Bowl, go BIG BLUE (as we call the Giants in NY).

    Carol

  21. John,

Thanks so much for the blow by blow of this cruise. It is such a nice thing you do to keep us all so entertained. Get that ankle checked out.

  22. Hey John,

The live blog thingy was fun once it was up and running. Do you think the “bugs” are worked out so things will go more quickly Friday? Appeared a lot of the blog time was consumed with tech glitches. Mind you, I am commenting, not complaining. Would just like to have more time for more comments in “real time.”

Jealous of all you cruising bloggers,

    Myra

  23. Hi John/Heidi:
Great pictures today. Nice to see you smiling.
Hope the feet are doing better.
Great to hear from you and looking forward to catching up soon.
    D

  24. John -

I will forever hold it against you if you choose to root for those bullies of the NFL, the New England Patriots. After all, they have to take their name a SIX STATE area.

My Jints (as we also call them) really surprised those Packers (and me, as well). GO BIG BLUE.

It is always interesting, IMO, to find out how people became fans of the teams they root for – in my case, the Giants used to have preseason camp at a College about five miles from where I grew up. When I was three years old, an offensive tackle by the name of Roosevelt (Rosey) Brown picked me up and told me “you will be a Giants fan”.

Now, mind you – Rosey Brown probably outweighed both you and Big Ed combined. (Not really, he was 6-3 and 255 pounds). My entire life, I have lived with the fear that, if I rooted against the Giants, this big man would come find me and beat me up.

Rosey Brown, a Football Hall of Fame member, died about three years ago. I actually cried when I heard the news. Even today, I tear when thinking about the influence that this great man had on my life.

GO BIG BLUE. BEAT THOSE (VT, NH, ME, MA, RI, CT) PATRIOTS
