Hello John and Heidi,
Laura, my wife, and I live in a small community just outside the Memphis, Tennessee city limits called Lakeland. I set outside, by the pool, on the weekends and read the morning paper, drink my coffee, and think about how to come up more money to take Carnival cruises. That's when I discovered your article. I'll start this memo informing everyone about getting bit by the cruise bug approximately 4 years ago. My wife's father took carnival cruises, when he was alive, and loved them. He would comment on how great the staff treated him and the food was mouth watering....so we call Carnival and book a cruise..that's when the carnival bug got under our skin and is still there. So after 14 cruises Laura and myself are going on the carnival "Glory" in 2 weeks to celebrate our 36 wedding anniversary and to visit my son, Cory. Now this is where the good stuff starts; we booked the Carnival "Pride" May of 07 for the Mexico-Cabo run and had the time of our life. Cory was 20 years old then and would disappear every night and go night clubbing by himself....Cory's out going and has not problem finding friends...he is red headed and resembles the little boy on the "Andy of Mayberry" show. Cory tells us to go and watch the the ship's "Legend Show" so after dinner so we go and find a good seat to discover he is "Ricky Martin" in the show and does a great job singing...The rest is history...the dancers are crazy about him and his talent on stage...Cory you need to work for Carnival...but I'm sending him to nursing school....not....Cory's been working as a social host going on a year now. He started on the "Ecstasy" and now is on the "Glory". He could be put in the Assistant Cruise Director's position in July for vacation relief....and is considering being a floating Social Host to get more experience in becoming a Carnival Cruise Director...That's what he wants to be instead of a nurse...You need to get in touch with Cris (HR) in Miami and view his profile...he even has a fleet ataboy in his file...I'm glad I read the paper this morning and discovered your "Blog sight" I will begin the morning reading it instead of the paper. I hope I'm not bragging too much but he is my son and I love crusing with Carnival....

People!!
Its been a year of my unforgettable Med cruise on the Freedom so I decided to relive it day by day on my blog.
If you want to read all about it click on my name. It all started on June 3 ( pre cruise) so you have to go back a couple of blogs. Sad that Carnival announced leaving the Freedom on the Caribbean the same exact day that I took my cruise a year ago June 6. Oh well... Hope you enjoy it!!
John:
I don't know if you have time but I think you may like it. I talk a lot about you. :)
Big huggo for you and Heidi

We are soooo disappointed that the Pride is leaving Long Beach and the 7 day Mexican Riviera cruises. We try to go every year.

Not sure we will like the Splendor, but if John Heald is the CD, it will be worth at least one cruise!!!

I would also like to see an Alaska cruise out of Seattle on Carnival. People are liking flying less and less, especially international flights.

We are booked for an Alaska cruise on Celebrity out of Los Angeles. They have 2 going - one round trip Los Angeles and 1 ends in Vancouver. This is the only reason we are straying from Carnival. Wish Carnival would offer trips out of Long Beach for both the Panama Canal and Alaska. We would book immediately!!!

These blogs are great - thanks for the entertainment!

QE2's longest-serving passenger Beatrice Muller seeks new home
Will Pavia

Beatrice Muller is looking for a new home. Ideally, it should be within easy reach of shops, a ballroom and a community of committed duplicate bridge players. She does not need much space, nor is she fixed on any particular location. Indeed, her chief wish is that her new home be perpetually floating over the ocean between one location and the next.

In other words, she is looking for a new home that is almost exactly like her present one: a cabin on board the Queen Elizabeth 2, in which she has lived for the past nine years.

In November the ship will make its final voyage to Dubai to be moored beside a man-made island in the shape of a palm tree, and recast as a floating hotel. Even at the age of 89, Mrs Muller refuses to contemplate such a stationary life. “What would I want to do that for?” she said this week, while her home was moored at Southampton. “I was married to a wonderful man for 57 years. I have done my penal servitude – I want to travel.”

Cruise holidays had never appealed to her until 1995, when she stepped on board the QE2 with her husband, Bob. Both were smitten, and returned year after year. In 1999 her husband died on board. Mrs Muller, from New Jersey, had no grandchildren and most of her friends had died or moved to France. She had far more friends on the QE2 and her two sons suggested that she live there.

She sold almost all of her landlocked possessions and moved into a small, windowless cabin permanently. “My sons are delighted I’m here and safe and out of their hair,” she said. The rates – about £3,500 a month – compared favourably with a Florida retirement home. “It’s far more pleasant,” she said. “They don’t organise you like senior citizens’ homes must do, and I’m hard to organise.”

Every morning she reads a printout of The New York Times, works on her memoirs and calls on friends. In the afternoon she plays duplicate bridge until tea time: then there are cocktails and dancing.

The ship has a number of “hosts”, dapper gentlemen on hand to cut a rug with single ladies of a certain age.

“All the ladies fight over them,” a member of the crew told The Times before introducing Stephen Machutta, 67, an impeccably groomed man from Nevada. “Wow! A writer!” he said. “What a fascinating life you must lead,” he said before gliding away to deploy his charms on the poor, defenceless Baroness Thatcher, who was on board for a ceremony to say farewell to the ship.

Between the cocktails and the dancing and midnight buffets – “and sometimes I find time to sleep” - Mrs Muller writes e-mails to sad landlocked souls who have heard of her extraordinary life and wonder how they too might find a home on a cruise ship.

She now finds herself in a similar position. “I’m looking for a new home at sea,” she said. It is a tight market. “The only liner left in the world is the Queen Mary 2. The Victoria is lovely but she’s not built to go as far as these ocean liners – she’s not as strong.”

Mrs Muller is hoping to persuade Micky Arison, the owner of Carnival Corporation, Cunard’s parent company, to take the QE2’s officers and put them on theQM2. “That would be the place to turn,” she said.

I like sharks. Of course, I hate to see anyone bitten by one. But more people are bitten (and killed) by dogs every year.

So, give the sharks a break. When you're a yummy looking animal and in their territory, they're just doing what comes naturally -- without malice. In the case of most dog attacks -- it's all about malice.

Hi John,
I very much like the TA-Crossings.
Some weeks ago I asked about booking flights getting back home out of Dover to GE after TA on Liberty in April 2009. Thanks for your response.
I am always booking my cruises and airfare as fare in advance as possible. Lucky me not booking the Freedom this time. As I am prefering the Liberty I already prebooked my TA on Liberty in Nov 2009.
I booked the TA on Splendor in Oktober 2008.
I am looking forward seeing you again.
You are right about the old Cameras. I got some of the old ones still working without any problems.
But you are not talking about real digital cameras!!! The real stuff is at fast as the old ones, but starting at a price range $ 500 >>>>. Sometimes beeing asked on a cruise taking pictures I always have to remember the 10 seconds.

Yours
Ralf

Hi John,

I'm in total agreement with you about sharks.........terrible creatures.

I loved seeing the Splendor pics & am anxiously looking forward to more & the announcement of the godmother.

Sure was unhappy to hear that the Freedom has been pulled from Europe for 2009. There are a lot of other really unhappy folks on Cruise Critic. Several are definitly going to abandon Carnival & go over to other lines that still cruise Europe. I know you can't respond, but it seems to me that Mr. Cahill is making a lot of changes, most of them not good. I just hope that the changes are for sound economic reasons rather than showing us he can throw his weight around. I worked many years for a Fortune 500 company & have seen more than 1 new executive initially get a bit carried away.

John, when your on the computer you don't need an eye pod. Your computer can play your music at the same time as your blog. I'm sure with your new lapdancer you can watch a movie, listen to music, check on your millions and do the blog all at the same time with all the power computers have now.

One on the selling points of mine was I could even stand on it. On TV they did this many times during the presentation. Even though I have never tried to us my laptop as a scale I don't think it goes over 400 pounds.
