When I was told that our Godmother was Myleene Klass I can admit to thinking …………..who? ………………Then, after reading about her I can admit to thinking ……….is she the right choice? Well, after yesterday I am here to tell you that the answer is a huge, massive, gigantic five-star YES……she was just perfect.
Myleene was just simply brilliant and the naming ceremony has received lots of great press…………here are some examples of what the press are saying.
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF CARNIVAL SPLENDOR’S NAMING CEREMONY FEATURING GODMOTHER MYLEENE KLASS SHOWCASED IN SPECIAL WEB PORTAL
Line’s Newest and Largest ‘Fun Ship’ Officially Named in Dover, UK, Earlier Today
MIAMI (July 10, 2008) – Exclusive video of the recently completed naming ceremony for the 113,300-ton Carnival
Splendor is now available for viewing on www.carnival.com/splendor. The video footage showcases the one-of-a-kind event
held earlier today in Dover, England, and presided over by Myleene Klass, a chart-topping musician, singer and television
personality in the UK who served as the ship’s godmother.
Following the ceremony, the 3,006-passenger Carnival Splendor – Carnival Cruise Lines’ largest ship to date – sailed
from the Port of Dover on a special three-day cruise to Amsterdam and will operate the line’s first-ever 12-day Northern
Europe program from that port July 13 – Aug. 30.
The video footage includes the naming ceremony’s dramatic culmination during which a member of the Royal Navy
dive team – following a cue from Klass, who was playing a classical piano piece live on Carnival Splendor’s Lido Deck –
climbed up a 60-foot-long black marlin ascent rope to reach the ship’s name at the top of the bow.
From there, the diver broke with tradition by smashing a bottle of 1994 vintage Nyetimber English sparkling wine
across the ship’s hull. Nyetimber was chosen by Carnival to emphasize the selection of Britain to launch its newest and largest
ship.
Additionally, Carnival Splendor Senior Cruise Director John Heald – whose cruise-themed blog has become one of
the most popular sites on the Internet – will be blogging live from the ship, offering his own unique insight into the festivities
surrounding the line’s newest “Fun Ship.” There will also be a section where visitors to the portal are encouraged to share their
comments and correspond with other readers.
The special Web portal also offers a first look at Carnival Splendor’s distinctive lounges, bars, restaurants, as well as
the luxurious 21,000-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa, expansive children facilities, and Carnival’s Seaside Theatre, a 270-square-
foot LED screen on Lido Deck displaying movies, concerts and other programming.
Following its departures from Dover, Carnival Splendor will reposition to Rome (Civitavecchia) to operate a schedule
of 12-day Mediterranean cruises through Oct. 17, 2008, then sail on a trans-Atlantic crossing from Rome (Civitavecchia) to
Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Oct. 29 – Nov. 14, positioning the vessel for a series of seven-day Caribbean cruises from that port.
Carnival Splendor will then operate 14- to 18-day South America voyages followed by year-round seven-day Mexican
Riviera cruises from Long Beach, Calif., beginning March 29, 2009.
Carnival is accepting reservations on all of the Carnival Splendor’s various European, Caribbean, South American and
Mexican Riviera departures.
For additional information and reservations, contact any travel agent, call 1-800-CARNIVAL or visit carnival.com.

I am very happy that they laughed at my jokes and I am glad that everyone is having a wonderful time on the three-day cruise. Today we are in Amsterdam and Heidi’s family came over to visit. This was great and the fact that my Mum and Dad are here as well made it even more special…………….however there were some tears of sadness when Heidi saw the empty chair at the lunch table…………..she misses her Dad very much …and so do I…He would have been so proud to see her today on this magnificent ship.
I spent the day filming, doing press interviews and trying to look after two sets of families and quite honestly I have not had two minutes to myself and ………..here and now I admit………..I am very, very tired.
In about thirty minutes I have to host a cocktail party and then a dinner and then MC a show…………..and most annoyingly I don’t have time to write a normal blog………and you know how that bothers me.
I will also admit ……..I am admitting a lot of things in this blog………..that I cannot wait to get this cruise over with. I just want to get back to normal start our first 12-day cruise to the Baltic.
So, once again I beg for your forgiveness and I promise normal blogging service will be resumed as soon as this cruise is over.
For now though I have to leave you with this video and some photos which I hope you enjoy.
Goodnight
Your friends
John and Heidi

Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs. Heald best of luck for the next 50 years. I hope John Paid for the gold cake at the price of gold these days, it’s about equal to 3 liters of petrol.
John,
Don’t worry about us we understand how busy you are and the video blogs are nice because we get to see Heidi, who still owes us a blog. So Heidi when ever your ready I know I’m waiting to read it. The Video of the inaugural was terrific. I think we need Al Pachino to play Gerry in the movie. Ok maybe not but I’m sure someone will volunteer. Best to everyone Happy Anniversary to your parents once again, and I hope you are enjoying the time on the ship with them for the next few days.
Kevin
PS I could make your dad a dog house cake if he would like one to match yours from your birthday.
Hey John,
What a wonderful video. Your mum & dad are just so cool…happy 50th! What a wonderful tribute, and that cake…wow! Heidi looks so beautiful & it was fun seeing her laughing with your parents. Looking forward to future blogs.
Jan
John,
Thank you for sharing that very special time for your Mum and Dad with us. My wife just lost her father who would have been celebrating their 50th anniversary in September. Cherish every moment you can.

Hi John,
Sounds like you are running around everywhere. (okay walking) Pretty soon you will be back on schedule and going Day two instead of a day of the week. Just 50 more days and I will be on the Holiday again. It seems that Carnival will be making an announcement shortly on the date of her fate. Mobile just announced that they are fixing to purchase a new 3 millon dollar gangway.
Dave
Happy Anniversary to Mum & Dad! 50 years is quite an accomplishment. Thanks for sharing your family with us. You deserve a break from blogging and have done a fantastic job for Carnival and all of us John and Heidi! Enjoy your family and get some much deserved rest.
John–A giant MAZEL TOV to your parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. How old were they, 12 years old when they got married? They look wonderful. That cake looked wonderful too. Please send one to me……
Stop apologizing for the video blogs. They are great, you say so much in them that would take forever to write, and it’s easier on my eyes that doing all that reading (and you, John, are looking slimmer).
The video’s have been great. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so a video must be worth much more. Of course you typically write your blogs in the middle of the night while sitting around in your boxers. In that case we can do without the picture.
We also look forward to things getting back to normal so we can start serious planning for the Bloggers cruise.
happy anniversary to the dude’s mum and dad!!!
smiles, bonnie and prince charlie

Congrats on 50 years to john mom and dad and many more.
John:
The blog thingy can wait. You have a chance to spend some quality time with your wonderful Mom and Dad and that is where you should be.
Enjoy them while you can. Both my Mom and Dad have passed away after being married for 54 years, so I can understand Heidi’s sense of loss.
But they are always with us in our hearts. Every time we bring them to memory, we honor their lives and their love for us.
Happy 50th Anniversary !!!
Linda (Mom of your friend DJ)

Thank you for sharing your Mum and Dad’s 50th anniversary with us. It was very kind and unselfish of you, Heidi and them to take a part of your time and allow us to share the celebration. Congratulations to them and all they have shared together.
The video blogs are fantastic. Just take it easy and don’t over do yourself. Spend some quality time with your family. We will always be here when their visit is over.
Give my best to Heidi. A big thanks to Stephanie for all you do to keep us in the loop.
Gloria aka Sue
John Congrats to Mum and Dad on 50 years of wedded bliss. Your dad knows what to say and when to say it.
Tim and Di Dewing
Take the weekend off!! I was talking to Eugenio and we imagine that your parents were going to remain on board for the short cruise and that you were going to see Heidi’s family today. They are more important, spend the time you are blogging with them at least this weekend. We don’t mind. You look proud behind your parents and you should be as much as they are of you.It is beautiful picture. Your parents look great! God bless them. The ceremony and the godmother and the CD were perfect I saw Zydeco pics and on many of them the people were laughing. Stephanie told us some of the things you said. Your parents are in one of the pics. Beautiful anniversary cake.
Enjoy your time with them will wait.
Tell Heidi I send her a hug.
Nanni
John, again Happy Anniversary to your Mom and Dad. They both look beautiful. You must have been adopted. Glad they had Suzanne so they had at least one beautiful child. They seem to be enjoying themselves. Got to get them on the Bloggers Cruise to met the Evil Krewe.
John, I know it was all planned by you but did you have to have the wind blowing on Myleene from the bottom. That poor Priest.
BIG ED
Happy Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Heald!
Wow! that is some cake! At today’s price for gold, I think I’d put it in my retirement account rather than eating it.
John,
Don’t fret so much about not writing a “proper” blog. I like the video clips. It’s nice to hear your voice and see what is going on. Plus, it’s the only way we get to hear from Heidi.
Congrats to mum and dad on 50 wonderful years together! John, how nice was that for you to do a video for all of us so that we could finally meet your great parents! They are a lovely couple. I think from that short video that you must get your sense of humor from your mum!
Heidi, your hair looks so cute cut like that. Great to see and hear you again also! I believe it is way past time for another blog from you!!
John, HOW ABOUT WE HAVE A GODFATHER FOR THE BLOGGERS CRUISE ALSO? I THINK THAT YOUR MATE AND OUR FRIEND, ALAN, WOULD BE THE PERFECT CHOICE! We all feel that we have come to know him thru you. He certainly would qualify as one who has been thru so much. Plus, it would be so nice for him to come and meet all of us, and we him. WHAT DO YOU THINK? PLEASE RESPOND!!
Thanks again to all of you for all you do to keep us all feeling like we are there with you, even when we can’t be!
Sheryl
