  • Ah bless… Candice is fabulous! I hope that Mr. I’m Late For Lunch felt like a right idiot when everyone gave her a hand and a standing ovation.

I hope she gets her passport and everything else sorted out and continues to enjoy her lovely cruise!

  • So glad to see Candice and thanks for making a fuss over her–she is deserving. I must say bravo too to the officer who went in after her!

  • candice, thanks for being a great human being! rather than a grouchy curmudgeon…

    smiles, bonnie and prince charlie

  • John,

    God Bless Candice!!!

And you made her feel special and wonderful…

So she lost a million dollars??? No, only $5000… Love it!!! :-D

    EXCELLENT!!!

    …Lambie

  • Candice doesn’t deserve praise. She did something stupid and endangered herself and others. Maybe she was trying to be helpful, but she didn’t think. The first rule for rescuers is “don’t make things worse”.

  • John,

Can you tell me who the cruise director is on the Destiny? This will be our fifth cruise and all the cruise directors have been fantastic! Really enjoy your blog.

    John,
How nice of you to shower praise on Candice–she deserves that and much more. Too bad she had to fall in for all of us to be able to meet her, but what a wonderful thing she did in standing up for the passenger who was shoved aside. KUDOS to her!!! And, Mr. Late 4 Lunch, should be banned from food for the rest of the cruise for being so inconsiderate!

    Hi again John,

Candice is a very special person. I hope her paperwork gets straightened out. Now she deserves to sit at the Captain’s table, plus a solid gold plastic trophy and chocolate strawberries.

Thanks for the weather updates. Who knows, by the time it’s time for my cruise at the end of the month, I may be going to Canada or Bermuda instead of the Caribbean. But it’s still a cruise and I can’t wait.

    Later,

  • Hi John: After reading the changes in cruise schedules, this is the reason Floridian’s avoid cruising during Hurricane season! We came thru T.S. Fay with some flooding, Gustav passed us by, hopefully Hanna will too, I hope and pray we don’t get Ike, or Josephine, my brother says if we are gonna get hit by any hurricane it will be Josephine, (that was our mothers name-she is now deceased) but she was HURRICANE alright! HA! HA! Anyway, we are bracing for all that is ahead. We have had our hurricane shutters up since Fay and will keep them up till we get back from our Thanksgiving week cruise, which is the last week of Hurricane season. Once the shutters come down the Christmas decorations go up! This is the FUN of living in Florida, but we love it here, especially being able to cruise from all the ports in Florida. Hope you and Heidi are doing well. Hope your drs. visit went alright. I have been away from the blog due to the fact that my computer crashed during a storm and it needed a new hard drive, I hope to have it back this weekend, so I am checking the blog from work. Your friend, Linda

  • Hi John,

Thanks for the Candice video! And, thanks for making this a special cruise for a special lady.

  • I’m sure that you and and many of the other guests will certainly make this cruise one to remember. I really hope that Mr Munchies was in the theatre when you introduced Candice and I hope he feels like the heel that he is! Again, no picture of our italian hero??!!

    Cheers!

  • Well, I guess one Candice makes up for several Mr Captains, Mr Hungrys, Mrs Snobs and others.

  • John,
I’m so happy to see you rewarding good behavior! Awesome! You should have made a comment about Mr. MeMyMineLunch while you were at it.
    Jeff

  • You are so good at what you do John, making this cruise for Candice a trip to remember. you will accomplish. But then I think you do that for everyone, so this is going to be very easy for you.

To be honest, I doubt I would have done what she did. I do think I would have tried to find someone to help the woman that was run over by “them”, but I am not the brave sort to go the distance. But Candice did and Mr. “I have to eat now, or else”, will just be what he is, someone that really should not cruise.

Keep smiling John, so looking forward to meeting you on the 11th.

  • I want to see the italian hero…. Give Candice a big huggo from me. Bravo!
    Nanni

  • How wonderful! God Bless Candace!! I sure add my hopes that Mr LunchPutz was in the house, and hears her praises sung the entire cruise!!! Putz…

John, thanks for the video, and celebration for Candace!
    Love you all!
    Floatie

  • John,

My daughter Elizabeth I recently cruised with you on the Splendor August 6 – 18. It was the trip of a lifetime which we will never forget. It was my daughter’s first time to Europe who at 19, fell in love with places like Copenhagen and Amsterdam where she now plans to attend school! You were one of the highlights of the trip. We went to your talks and never missed the morning show. I laughed so hard I cried at the first Spectacular show where you had members of the audience up on stage. You are the funniest and best cruise director I have known (have cruised 7 times). We had such a wonderful time and I am definitely planning my next vacation on Carnival with the cruise that you will be directing. Is there somewhere I can look up the cruises that you will be on?

I don’t know if you remember but we bumped into you at the Pinnacle Restaurant on the second formal night. You told us how lovely we looked and to my shear embarrassment Elizabeth flashed her lacey frilly knickers which she claims is part of the outfit. I tried to attach a picture but couldn’t.

My parents are booked on the Splendor when it cruises around South America starting January 31. They are doing 3 cruises back to back for about 40 days. I told them all about you. Will you be doing that trip?…Can you imagine doing a 40+ day cruise with ‘Captain Rude or the ‘you were rude about Al Gore’ guy. I like the ‘ornery passenger stories’ Your spin is hilarious.

I really miss the trip and would have easily stayed on the ship for another round. That is why I was so happy to find your blog. Thank you for taking the time out of what must be a hectic schedule, to do this blog. You make us laugh everyday and you keep the Splendor fresh in our memory.

Sorry if this is too long for a blog reply. This is my first time doing one of these bloggy thingies.

  • Great for Candice–a good sense of humor! Now, Mr. Complaining Waiting in Line for his Food probably would have told you he had a million dollars in his wallet, along with some rare coins and a personalized letter from the Pope, to see how much he could get out of it!

There is little room for doubt that Candice is worthy of the praise and attention she has gleaned in her attempted intervention of a social injustice……. She endeavored to let the rude pushy guests see just how nice a lady she can be. What that stampeding swarm of assertive buffoons was doing wasn’t fair, it wasn’t nice….. and the feed me a burger and fries NOW guy needs to take a pill of some kind.

  • John-
We have a group of cruise critc members on the Transatlantic Cruise Oct 29. Can you suggest a meet and greet time and place that would not interfear with early meal seating and muster drill?

There are about 40 of us (if they all show up).
    Thank you,
    Patsie (and James) from Texas!!

  • Hi John/Heidi:
Thanks for posting the Candice video.
She deserves the memories of a lifetime.
    Take care!
    David

  • Candice, deserved that round of applause and more! John you are great for giving her the recognition!

Oy!, colonel!, did you not read the blog thoroughly? Candice was ON the gangway and had witnessed some other guests needing assistance from the staff. She then fell in the drink from the gangway. She was not involved in the incident beyond getting a staffer’s attention and she ended up falling.

Bet we’ve got Mr. Late For Lunch reading the blog from onboard and responding, eh? ;)
