Good morning …….it’s Sunday and it’s 1:05 am. I should be in bed asleep, dreaming of Cameron Diaz and a large tub of green Jell-O. But that avenue of pleasure is closed because of the location of this fine hotel. It’s right on the “party street” and there is a nightclub right next door and I can clearly hear the drum and bass listened to by boys with pants that are too short and girls whose skirts are even shorter you can see their lady gardens.
Bugger.

Good Evening from Dallas. The home of the Cowboys, great steaks, JR, Miss Ellie and of course……….that great American Icon……….the Pick Up Truck.
I have never seen so many. I guess that’s because I have never been to the south before except Miami which I guess is South but feels nothing like Dallas…………which I have to say is friendly to the extreme. But, it’s the pick up truck thingy which I am enthralled about…………and here …………they are everywhere.
When you have a pick-up, you are not an IT engineer from Microsoft. You are a frontiersman who likes his beer cold, his deer raw and his music country-style. You can go to the woods at weekends with your other pick-up-driving friends and dream up plans to rid Washington of its liberal politicians. You have the military-style wheels. You have the military-style haircut. You have the guns. You even have the camouflage shirts.
Hello Everyone,
I’ll be writing a full blog which will be posted later tonight. It will include a few photos of….well….you’ll see. For now though here’s Stephanie to tell those of you who are joining me tomorrow morning for a cup of coffee where to be, what time, etc. For everyone one else, remember to tune into the blog at noon Dallas time for live coverage. Also, check the bottom of the post for a surprise. Talk to you later.
Cheers,
John
Manners cost nothing…………..these are words that were drummed into me from a very young age by my Mum and Dad. Unfortunately, while my parents were banging on that drum, it seems the parents of people I have met today were banging something else.
Please and thank you………two small words……..as John Cleese’s character Basil Fawlty said “Please is one small word, not the Gettersburg address.” I am sitting here on the plane having been subjected to new levels of rudeness which, I am sorry to say, are commonplace…….and we all accept it.

Many people imagine when they rent a car in America that they’ll be thumping down Ocean Drive under a blazing sky in a throbbing Corvette or an evocative Mustang. Yum yum, they think. Freedom. Sunshine. A & W Root Beer. A Supermodel by your side dressed in a skimpy top and tight blue jeans. The American dream…
Sadly, however, most tourists end up with what I have been given to drive, which is almost certainly the worst car in the entire world. I won’t actually name the car in case any of you own one but considering I am paying $30 a day for something that can only be described as ………..well………….I can’t describe it.
