John: (Please answer if you can but no hurry):

My question has to do with making phone calls. As I have never had any need to make phone calls out of the U.S., we do have an unusual situation for us this coming September.

We will be on the Sept. 12th sailing of the Glory and two daughters will be sailing on another ship. We will all be docked in St. Thomas on the same day. Can you advise us about making phone calls while there. I notice that the crew all run to the phones in port to make their calls. Should we purchase a phone card or an international one? I’m not sure yet if our cell phones have international calling.

Would you know if there is international phone cards that can be purchased. Thinking about it – St. Thomas is a holding of the U.S. Would I still need an “international” card??? Thanks for any help that you can give me.

I might have forgot to mention in one of my comments that Stu and I are booked on the Dream Bloggers Cruise with you this November 15th. We were also on the Fantasy bloggers cruise in Feb. 2009. I guess what I was trying to say is that since Freedom 2007 with your Mount Holly and Bedtime Story we try and book only when you are on board. Either bloggers cruises or as the CD. We did return to the Freedom the next year 2008 and really missed you as the CD. Your sense of humor is unique and your daily blog has put a smile on my face through the last 6 months of difficult days.
I hope the fact that you do so much for many people will help comfort you while away from your beautful wife and beautiful baby.

Hi, John! You haven’t heard from us for a few days because we were away again this time for a wk. in Punta Cana, Dominican Rep. We had a good time & it was special because my cousin & her husband went along (by the way, they are also Carnival’s past guests). Now, we have to tell you how very excited & anxious we are because we are only 31 days away from sailing from Pt. Everglades on the Freedom for 8 days with you on July 18! That is really going to be special & lots of fun! We can’t hardly believe our luck that you will be again our CD!

Regarding your inquiry about how a Cruise Director will influence us at the time of cruise selection… We will sincerely tell you that the CD will be the “icing on the cake!” Since we have taken a number of cruises (most of them Carnival’s or owned by it like Cunard, Costa), first we’ll check out the ports-of-call (because we don’t want to repeat them too often) & the ship (we don’t mind repeating the ship, especially if we have already been acquainted with it). Finally we check out, whenever possible, the CD. Believe us, he/she can make/break a cruise. A few, as you have already heard from the bloggers, disappear into thin air – are hardly visible during the cruise – rely on the Asst. CD’s & entertainment staff’s assistance & only show up to announce the shows or to give the ports-of-call talks.

When we first booked the 7/18/09 Freedom Cruise you were not scheduled to be our CD and it it was O.K. Then, when all of a sudden your schedule changed & we discovered that we were going to be very fortunate to have you, that’s when we really got super excited about the cruise!

We don’t want to close this before telling you that Kye’s latest picture is a winner. Congratulations again to you and Heidi on your precious princess!

Being one whose favorite, favorite, favorite (well…almost!) thing on the planet is traveling makes me want to spank you for whining in any way shape or form about the experiences thereof!!!

First Class for a first class family man and a brand loyal spot on CD and marketing rep. Seriously. Kye is so sweet and so is her Mom. I feel bad when you have to leave them. You kind of put yourself out there to the world and it is overwhelming when you have to leave your family.

I would book based on Ship, itinerary and CD. But my vacation is open for anything fun, so no limitations for me either.

I will miss the fish and chips. It is a guilty pleasure we have had each embarkation lunch.
