Donato and I used to work on the same ship, the Cunard Countess in 1987-88. I worked in the Purser's Office and he was the Asst. Maitre D', I believe. I really miss Wednesdays on that ship! For lunch we had the Italian buffet, with great pizza that the Maitre D', Bruno, claimed to have made himself. (I didn't care for the anchovies, however.) That was one of the only times that we ate in the passenger dining room instead of in the Officers Mess. Then on Wednesday nights we had crew disco. Lots of crazy dancing in a very small room! We (pursers) used to take a nap after 2nd sitting dinner then set our alarms to go off at 11:45 PM so we could get up and dance for a few hours in the crew disco. The best week on board was St. Patrick's day week 1988. On Tuesday night we had an engagement party in the crew disco for one of the Asst. F & B Managers, then Wednesday night was the regular crew disco, then Thursday night was St. Patrick's Day. The crew didn't sleep much that week! I remember Donato as being quiet but very professional every time I saw him in the passenger dining room. (Anyone was quiet compared to Bruno, the Maitre D'! He was a crazy, high energy guy!) I am pleased to read that Donato has continued to progress in his career at sea and he will be Hotel Manager of the brand new Carnival Dream! Please send him my congratulations. Laurie F. Oh my gosh!
