It's neat to hear the "story behind the story." I thought the whole itinerary change was handled very well, with your emphasis on SAFETY at the beginning of every message. Although, had I known you were standing there talking in your undies, I would've cracked up!!!!After your first "going to Cozumel/Grand Cayman" announcement, I happened to walk past the Guest Service desk where someone was becoming very vocal about their dissatisfaction. Apparently they thought that GC/Coz/Jamaica were not "upscale" enough in accordance with the price they paid for the cruise. Huh? I wanted to butt into the conversation (they were talking to one of the officers stationed in front of the desk) and ask if they had taken a moment to consider that there were FAR WORSE alternatives: like heading to Savannah, or Newport, or NYC. Not that those are bad places to go. Just not ideal for a Caribbean vacation. You know?Anyway--I didn't butt in. And, it didn't matter so much, because as you shared, we reverted back to our original route.

Funny post! I am not sure this is the right way to contact you but I need some advice. My DH and I are planning to take my 29 year old autistic son on a cruise on the Carnival Ecstacy in late October after she comes out of dry dock. My son is basically a 5 year old in a 6'5" man's body. I know he will enjoy the water slide and any dancing on board. Too bad he is too big and too old for the kids programs, he'd love them. Anyway, my questions revolve around dining. We have always been careful not to offend other people and although my son's maners are acceptable, some might not want him at their table. Will it be hard for us to get a table for 4 at the early serving? How do we go about requestiong this? We will be traveling with one of my son's caregivers. Any information you can give us will be appreciated.
Thanks,

I love your blog as always, but this one kinda struck me in the rear! Maybe it's because I was born & raised in Florida, but I always have a hard time understanding why people who sail the Caribbean in the late summer months, like August, do so with such high expectations for the weather! Do they not ever read newspapers or the net?Are they so oblivious to what happens to all us southerners (& sometimes the easterners) every single year around this time? Have they never heard of Andrew, Katrina, Camille, Opal - just to name a few of the most destructive disasters of all time? There IS a reason the cruises offered during the months of August & September are so reasonable - and it's NOT because the kids are going back to school! Hurricanes, I'm sorry to say, are Mother Nature's way of cooling the earth and until some genius figures out a way to control them - there is no way to get around their fury and I, for one, would never want to tangle with one out in open water - regardless of what size ship I was on! I've had the misfortune to go through about 35 of these monsters in my lifetime - they are a way of life where we live.
The idiots who want to get upset with Carnival are just fools and you should not trouble yourself with them. You can't fix stupid!
Hang in there - you'll be home with your beautiful girls soon!

Hi John (with kisses to Heidi & Kye!)<br

I'm so excited about my upcoming cruise on March 6th on the Carnival Dream. I've also very excited to learn that you will be my cruise director as you were my cruise director on my very first cruise on the Carnival Destiny back in 1996 when it was also a new ship. I have talked about you each time I've cruised since and I have to tell you I have had some good cruise directors over the years but you are still ranked as the best in my book. we have 7 cabins booked so far and it's a group that gets together every year in March to hit the seas. We are all counting down the days and have finally hit under 200 days till your cruise. See you there!

Hi John,<br

I must apologize for neglecting to write in my previous postings that my granddaughter Rachael is 8 yrs. old and has already been on 7 Carnival cruises. We absolutely cannot entice her to take part in any of our activities or shore excursions. She will NOT leave Camp Carnival, no matter what ship she is on or to what port we may be in with only one exception (the cave-tubing in Belize). In addition, she has made many new friends that she has stayed in contact with.We applaud the staff for their care, concern and attentiveness to our children and grandchildren. Thank you one and all . . .

Hi John:<br

People tend to forget that while they are on a vacation, some people on the ship are working very hard. I have a question for you. Our three year old will be going on his second cruise ( 3rd if you count the time he went while he was still "in the oven") on the Glory on 9/12/09. We have booked the French Beach Break in St. Martine. I know that the beaches are " European Style" and that there may be some nudity. My question is this, How often are people nude? I can just imagine some of the comments from my three year old! Especially if the people are old and French! We are really looking forward to this vacation. You were our cruise director back in 2005 when we took this cruise originally. A couple that lives in Missourri that we met while on that cruise and have kept in touch with will be joining us! Great vacation, great friends and naked French people! We are going to have GREAT time!!!!! Kye is very beautiful. Spend as much time as you can snuggling her. They do grow up too fast! Thanks for all of your help!Christy

Dear John, (Please reply)

I am sorry that your last cruise before you go home is not going as well as it could. On our first cruise we didn't try out the supper club but this time I'm thinking that I will surprise my wife with a trip there for her birthday (which happens to fall right in the middle of the cruise). I was wondering, in the supper club, do they have Maine lobsters? When we were on the conquest my wife was not overly thrilled with the lobster tails in the dining room on formal night (I think those were Caribbean lobster tails or some-such-thing). Lobster is her favorite and I'm hoping that supper club would have Maine lobster tails.Do you happen to know? Thanks much!-Michael

Hi John, (please reply)

First time posting on your blog but I’ve been reading it avidly in preparation for our Sep 2nd sailing on the Carnival Spirit (cabin #1201)!

This will be my wife and my second sailing on Carnival (our first was on the Conquest for our honeymoon). Saw your blog entry about the new contest for some kid 7-12 years old to become Carnivals first ever God child and win a cruise from New York and you wanted to know "why not Kye?" The contest is for kids 7-12 years old. You said so in your own entry.
Sorry BIG ED I had to give you a hard time. I am sure John feels his little Princess is growing up fast enough while he is away. Don't make her seven years old already. He will have a heart attack.

James & NancyDEAR JOHN,
I have two grandkids that fit the bill and I will enter them as soon as I get them to work on a picture to upload. First kids to go down the waterslide after the naming ceremony! Pretty Cool! Carnival you came up with a winning idea here.
