This was our Platinum Cruise and there was nothing but problems. It was absolutely the worst dining service we ever received in the Crimson Dining Room. The elevators would not work at times and the toilets would not flush in our Suite. The intertainment on the Lido deck was almost non-exsistant. I will sail Carnival again, but never on the "Dream".

I have to say that the Carnival Dream was absolutely the biggest disappointment of my sailings with Carnival. I really enjoy reading your blog but did not know you were diabetic. I have type 1 diabetes now for about 8 years and I must tell you the insulin pump is the best invention known to man. It's almost like having working pancreas. I don't know if you are on insulin or pills but if you have to take insulin it is so the way to go. It makes going to the buffet so much easier! Hope you are feeling better because I know how the lethargy can be especially in your job you need so much energy. Have fun on the Dream!

I am probably "old school" when it comes to proper attire, as is my family (ages 15-70+). I loved formal nights when they were formal, it offered me the opportunity to introduce my children (who were much younger at the time) to a fine dining experience. As you commented, John, there are times when one must know what to wear and how to conduct themselves at social gatherings.What others wear (within reason) doesn't really bother me, but I would hate to see the dining room atmosphere downgraded. I hate the idea of being dressed appropriately for elegant night and feeling over-dressed. I believe that since other venues are offered for meals, the dining room should maintain its integrity and offer a unique experience not found at your everyday casual restaurant at home.I would not allow my kids to wear jeans nor shorts to dinner when they were younger and now as teenagers, they would choose to wear khakis on casual nights and still a suit for elegant nights.All that being said, it certainly would not ruin my night because someone else chooses to wear jeans. But I would prefer CCL continue to provide suggested attire and for that to remain as is or to improve.

You are so right, dress codes always seem like a sensitive subject to people. He never willingly dresses up. But he wore a coat and tie on elegant nights, slacks and shirt other nights, and never wore jeans to the dining room. And we ate there every night, all ten of us (except when a few of us tried the supper club). He knew he could dress more casually and eat at the buffet, but his wife enjoyed the dining room and I enjoyed all of us being together each evening to recap our day, so he went along with the program.Please don't downgrade the expectation of proper dress for dinner in the dining room. Since there are other options, and no one will go hungry, keep the elegant nights elegant and the other nights "smart casual." And let the folks who prefer to wear jeans, eat at the buffet. To me the proper dining room attire helps to make the cruise something special.Shirley

John, I worried before my Carnival Freedom cruise in March 2008 (your last one on her and you were still recovering from the palsy thing) how my adult son would react to the dress code. I posted this already but failed to ask for a reply. We are a group of 6 ladies on a girl trip (no hubbies-no kids) on the Fantasy departing on Halloween day. We will be celebrating 3 birthdays (one big 4-0). We are curious what if any festivities to expect for Halloween? Costumes? Parties? This is my 5th Carnival cruise and hoping to be on the Dream in March 2010.

John=Please Reply<br

Isn't it better to be slightly over dressed than slightly or dramatically underdressed?It seems that society gets lazier and more slovenly with each passing year.I was recently on the Eurodam and the older clientele on HAL managed to dress accordingly for each evening. It makes the evening seem special and it is what I have come to expect. Why is the younger generation so quick to take the low road?I don't want to be sitting at dinner staring at someone in blue jeans and a tanktop with an exposed hairy chest. Even on men this is not the best look!

John:

Just how much effort is required to dress up appropriately for the occasion? I'm the mom of a boy who has cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus(fluid on brain) and he has to be feed through a gastrostomy feeding tube. I know how hard it is to do trips and just everyday things with a special child. My son Gene is to old for any of the kids activity on board, he turned 30 on September 3. He has the body of a young child, the face of an adult man, and a smile that light up any room when he enters it.
I'm glad that Carnival is helping the parents of these very special kids, the parents or parent needs a break every now and then. I spend 24/7 with Gene, where I go, he is right there with me, we cruise together, we shop together, we watch tv, my life revolves around him, there is no vacation for me, no free time, but I love every second of it, I'm proud to be a mom of a special child, would not change a thing. I love my life.
We were booked for the Carnival Dream for December 3, but had to cancel. Thanks for the wonderful pictures, love the colors, can't wait for more..

John,

Thanks for the letter from Bill Lucas. God Bless Him, he is a wonderful dad.<br
