As its name suggests however this cliff face is mostly north facing towards Spain (in land). However it does extend north-to-north-east and so can been see from ships when they are east of the strait - depending upon how close they are to Europe or Africa. There is traffic separation in the strait, so generally west (atlantic) bound ships are nearer to europe and east (med) bound ships are closer to africa. Other than that however the eastern side of the rock is sparsely populated, with very few light sources, however the western (bay of Gibraltar) side is where the town is, and also you have the ambient light from the other towns and cities in around the bay in Spain, as such - from the east - you will probably get a very good silhouette outline of the rock even at 4am! Patrick Swayze was in our show about 9 months in to the tour. This was the '70-'71 season. "Pismo John"...you think you're sick of "It's A Small World" It was our finale number 10 times a week, three times alone on Saturdays !! Yikes ! I can still hear it playing in my head almost 40 years later ! LOL ! I bet they play the heck out of it on the Disney ship..........."It's a world of laughter a world......." We have sailed 11 times on the C. Pride and this will be our 8th voyage on the C. Spirit. We love this class of ship and are surprised to hear you call them small--as we think they are just right. We are just off of the C. Splendor and didn't really care for the way she was laid out. Given the opportunity we would sail her again it's just that Spirit class ships are our favorites. I just got back from a great cruise on the Carnival FASCINATION. This was my wife and my self’s 6th cruise and was the best one ever. The crew was great and our cabin (Cabin E193) steward Gabby was the best one we ever had, ever time I opened the cabin door he was right there. Ready to be of service for what ever was needed. Our head waiter (table 287) was also excellent and provided close attention to our needs. This ship had a great group of passengers most everyone was considerate of other people. The CD Felpe was good and funny. The crew would go out of their way to help all of the passengers. I did have one problem and that was with the people in the cabin next to us. They had three kids the oldest was about 10 years old and the youngest looked to be about 5. They had 2 cabins and left the kids by their selves in one and the parents stayed in a cabin about 6 doors door the hall. The parents would go to the shows and other stuff and leave these kids by themselves unsupervised from after dinner until after 1 am. I am a retire police officer and on dry land this would have been child neglect. I know on a ship things are more relaxed but who should I report this to? The cabin must have been trashed by the kids I looked in on them to make sure everyone was ok , they were being kids jumping on the beds, banging on the walls screaming and yelling. I don’t blame the kids but I do blame bad parents. I have only been reading your blog since August but I have found that it is addicting. Keep up the Good work. Thanks Bruce Dear John
