Even though I have never booked or requested a handicap room, twice when I have booked a guarantee room, I have been assigned these rooms. This even happened on the Carnival Legend last week. Hopefully, it was because they were available and no one needed them.

I would assume that this would be something discussed at booking and guest needing these rooms would be considered first.

In December, we are taking our 3 kids on our yearly Christmas cruise. Because of schedules, we were limited in cruises and the ports of call do not excite me -- Cayman Islands and Cozumel. The kids are 20, 18 and 12. We've done all the excursion stuff offered. Can you recommend things to do on our own? We enjoy the beach, snorkeling, etc. Thank you.

Dear John,

Please Reply,

As a handicapped passenger I would like to pass on to you what handicapped passengers can do to make embarkation easy. First call the Special needs phone number a few weeks before they are to sail and ask them to have someone their with a wheelchair. When they arrive at the port, look for someone with the walkie-talkies and tell them that you had made arrangements for someone who needs a wheelchair. The time span from the time that I asked for help to when the wheelchair got there was only about 10 minutes. If you have not checked in yet, they take you through the VIP checking and then take you right on board and this also includes the members of their group as well. From the time I got into the wheelchair to the time I was onboard the beautiful Carnival Pride was only 20 minutes.

I hope this helps others who have a hard time walking. So, please John, pass this on to handicapped passengers. It sure makes the embarkation much easier for us. Now disembarkation is another story, unless they have changed the policy (maybe you could check on this part), getting off the ship is much harder, they will not help you get off, it will even say this in the Carnival Capers and the information that you get about disembarkation.

Best Wishes,
From your #1 Bloggy Thinggy Fan

Hi John,

Please Reply,

I am reading Amy Fowler's letter about what was the most memorable thing you have ever seen while working for the cruise line and you replied that there was just to many. I then got thinking, there are books out now by crew members about the life below the "crew only" signs, but I think it would be great if you wrote a book about all of the things that you have witnessed and read about as a Cruise Director. You have basically started it with your blog, you could add things to this and you would have a wonderful and funny book to sell. I know I would buy one for me and one for each member of my family. Please think about it and I bet others would agree this is a good idea for you. Hey, maybe they would pay you $1.25 million dollars as a retainer like they did for Sarah Palin then you can get that car you have always wanted.

Talk to the dr. about RLS. I've had it for years and find that gabapentin works well.

That's an off label use, it is also to prevent seizures. I haven't had one since I've used the stuff. Of course, I never had one before...

This will probably end in the delete file of one of the Stephanies???

john before you try anything else for your restless leg thingy please try what helps for me. i get a bathcloth and put cold water on it and briskly rub my legs before going to bed. it somehow makes those nerve ending thingies settle down. i hope it works for you as it is much better than more pills if it helps. good luck.
