John,
My PVP suggested I contact you. I belong to a group called the Coconut MonkeyHead Wasters, you may have heard of us. Many of us will be on the January 23rd and also the January 30th cruises of the Carnival Dream. We are a fun loving group and are planning a few group activities. We would like to hold MonkeyHead races on the racing slides. We were hoping that we might be able to “book” the slides for a period of time in order not to disrupt other cruisers. We would love to have you as a judge if you might be available. Please let me know if this could be arranged.
Thank you,
Karen Raiche

Your own personal TV hell….
John,
While watching the TV tonight I couldn’t help but think of you. On the National Geographic Channel there were two shows, back to back, that were almost tailor-made to have you reaching for your ever-present industrial-sized tube of hemorrhoid cream.
First we had a series called “Ultimate Factories”. It’s actually a pretty good series, where they give the viewer an insiders view into the manufacture of iconic products. My favorites include The Porsche 911, Corvette and Rolls Royce assembly lines. Today’s feature was……IKEA. I know how much you love them!!
Immediately following that was……”World’s Largest Cruise Ship” featuring the “Freedom to pay extra for a steak of the Seas”.
I love your blog John. It’s often one of the highlights of my day. (Is that sad???)
Keep up the great work and please give my love to Heidi and Kye.

I think it’s great that Carnival is teaming up with St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital! I am kind of surprised though that Marcia Gay Harden was selected over Marlo Thomas, since she has continued her father’s legacy all these years with St. Jude’s.
November 6th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Who is this actress who was named Godmother and why her?
Scratching head and puzzled….
Carolyn

actress Marcia Gay Harden is the Godmother of the Dream
John… Not a good choice… Who is she? I don’t even know her name or have ever even heard of her until this morning… What was Carnival thinking??? Personally, they could have done much better on this one… Disappointed..
And please tell Marcia Gay Harden that it’s the Carnival Dream not Dreams!!!
November 6th, 2009 at 10:42 am
You would think she could have pronounced the name of the ship correctly.

John,
who is Marcia Gay Harden, have never heard of her. they should of got someone that we really know, like Marlo Thomas.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
I do not believe she is as “well known” because she is more stage and theater than film.
It was probably a “New York” selection because the christening will be done in New York.
She is very well known and respected there….
although I have seen her in film as well….

Dear John,
Just as we were about to see the announcement (9:30 am here in Calgary, where the snow is flying) they cut off the show for a special news report. Did anyone tape the Today show and can they post it on this website? I do know who the new godmother is (strange choice) but I would like to have seen it unfold.
Still hooked on cruising…..Irene

Oh, my. She is a talented stage actress, but who exactly is she? I think it was a lackluster choice.
I really would have preferred John Heald.

While I agree that Marlo Thomas may have been a better choice – Marcia Gay Harden did win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Pollack and was nominated for her role in Mystick River. Not sure what her connection to St. Judes is, if any and can’t figure out why she was chosen.

39 movies and the only one I remember is ‘Space Cowboys’…
Lots of head scratchin’ going on over the selection but, hey, the Godmother doesn’t do a thing for the ship… Speaking of the Carnival Dream… one week from today I’ll be on board!!!
Ciao!!

John: This is Leslie, Mother of DWA76 who is one of your bloggers. We met you on the inaugural voyage of the Splendor in the Baltics and Avie and I were the couple who you woke up with your morning call. (We’re the ones who met as children at summer camp). In answer to the question about what Carnival Cruise Lines could do for their passengers who are in suites, I have the following suggestions. I have been in suites on other cruise lines such as Holland America and Celebrity and Costa who provided the following amenities to us. Afternoon canapes brought to our suite…special toiletries in the bathroom..i.e. special shampoos, oils, (get your mind out of the gutter I’m not getting kinky here). Complimentary laundry and dry cleaning. Also, Celebrity provides a personal butler to those passengers in suites. A special pillow menu. Costa provided us a complimentary dinner for two in their steakhouse which wasn’t nearly as good as the BLT sandwich you had at the deli in New York. By the way, you should have ordered the home made brisket sandwich. I’ve been on 47 cruises with all the major cruise lines but I keep coming back to Carnival because of people like you who make me feel at home. Hope this helps to answer your bloggers question on November 6th. Would love to hear back from you.
Best regards, Leslie
