They are chefs, waiters, stewards,dancers, photographers, officers,deck hands, beauty therapists and engineers and it is they who provide the vacation that millions of cruise ship and ocean liner passengers crave each and every year.

During the past 24 months the credit crunch has made us behave very strangely. Sales in luxury goods like Aston Martin, Rolex, and Lalique crystal sculptures of Megan Fox’s bottom fell to an all time low. This meant that slightly snobby people, people who until now have paid $40 for some Italian mozzarella from the local deli, while trying to ignore the fact that the owner of the deli is driving a Ferrari, were forced to buy their cheese from Publix, Winn Dixie or whatever their local supermarket was called.

It was 7:50am when the team walked up the gangway here in Port Canaveral. It was obvious by their beards that these were important visitors and as they entered the ship they produced identification that always turns grown men and women into dribbling nervous wrecks………………..United States Public Health were onboard.

There is not much worse than a snob…….well actually there is……….it’s a British snob. In the UK most people who are not regular cruisers are unaware of the Carnival brand. Why would they be? We have P&O who are Britain’s favourite cruise line, Ocean Village whose tag line is “cruising for people who don’t do cruises” and of course the one and only Cunard who along with Princess, Holland America, and one or two other lines …….. the British have lots to choose from.
