Each and every day thousands of men and women from every corner of the world, wake up away from their families and loved ones . They are chefs, waiters, stewards, dancers, photographers, officers, deck hands, beauty therapists and engineers and it is they who provide the vacation that millions of cruise ship and ocean liner passengers crave each and every year.

Three of these crew didn’t wake up as they always do, ready and willing to work hard for the passengers of the Costa Europa .

They tragically died during a docking incident when the ship hit the pier while docking at the Red Sea port of Sharm El Sheik early this morning.

Every crew member on every ship grieves for them today.

    Dear John,
My heart cries out for those three and their families. How very awful for all of those associated with these young people. It just shows you that we are not guaranteed tomorrow, so if there is someone you love or someone that you want to but have put it off that today is all we have and there is no time like the present to tell someone important to you how you feel.
God Bless all who sail and serve,
    The Cruzin2some

  6. Nancy Sterner says:

How tragic for their loved ones to have lost them so suddenly. Most of those who serve on Carnival do so in order to help their families while sacrificing themselves and their time together. Praying that God will be their comfort during this time as well as for those coworkers who are mourning.

  7. James and Bobbi says:

  11. Peggy Taylor says:

So sad for the “crew family” across the Cruise Lines. It’s a blessing this is so rare.

  12. Mike says:

God bless and keep them, and their families.

We often forget, that the sea and sailing can be dangerous for those who “go down to the sea in ships” Modern technology and thousands of years of evolving maritime skill passed down from generation after genearation of professional mariners has made sailing the seas incredibly safe for passengers. But for those who must operate and maintain the vessels, there are and always will be dangers.

I think that the “Navy Hymn” says it best:

    “Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bid’st the mighty Ocean deep
    Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.”

Again, may God welcome them, and comfort their families and friends.

  13. I was saddened when I heard of the accident and the loss of the 3 crew members. No matter what cruise ship, the crew goes above and beyond to make sure the passengers have a truly memorable experience. My prayers go out to their families.

    Joyce

    John
The sea as you know is a very harsh environment and even with all the precautions taken by the officers and crew it is a dangerous place which this story confirms. Our hearts go out to the families of those who were lost.

  25. Jack H says:

It amazes me that the crew on cruise ships can work so hard and long and yet be so cheerful.

Do Carnival and other cruise lines provide life insurance for crew members? It wouldn’t bring them back, but it would make life easier for their survivors.

  26. Jackie says:

My thoughts are with the family and friends of the crew members. Cruise ships do such a good job of looking out for the passengers and making our vacation carefree, that it is easy to forget the danger the crew faces as part of their every day work. How sad and heart breaking, I cannot imagine what these men went through and my heart goes out to them.

  27. Geri & Jack says:
