FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES PUNCHES UP THE FUN WITH
FLEETWIDE COMEDY CLUBS
New Carnival Punchliner Comedy Clubs to Offer Diverse Array of Comedians,
Five Shows on Multiple Nights Each Voyage
MIAMI (July 19, 2010) – Carnival Cruise Lines is adding more laughs and upping the fun quotient at sea with the introduction of Carnival Punchliner Comedy Clubs — dedicated comedy lounges rolling out fleetwide on all 22 “Fun Ships” by the end of the year. Building on the tremendous success of its first comedy club, which debuted on the new Carnival Dream last fall, Punchliner Comedy Clubs will feature a wide variety of side-splitting comics.
Located in the ship’s aft lounge, each Punchliner Comedy Club will offer guests loads of laughs with five 35-minute shows on multiple nights during each voyage, with at least two comedians performing each night. The two early-evening shows offer fun for the whole family while the later performances will feature adult-oriented comedy.
Carnival Punchliner Comedy Clubs will feature hilarious, laugh-out-loud performances from established comedians as well as rising stars, with approximately 10 shows per voyage offered on short cruise itineraries and approximately 20 shows per cruise on longer length departures.
“Laughter is the most public, most infectious expression of fun, so we’re excited to provide our guests with an expanded offering in comedy with our new Punchliner Comedy Clubs,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and CEO. “Given that laughter has been shown to have a positive effect on mood, stress reduction and overall happiness, our new clubs and performance line-up will only further enhance the spirited fun of a Carnival vacation.”
While comedy shows have always been part of Carnival’s diverse entertainment lineup, the concept was taken to another level aboard the Carnival Dream, which offered the line’s first dedicated comedy club last fall. Comedy clubs are currently also featured on Carnival Glory, Carnival Pride and Carnival Sensation — with the concept being incorporated into the remainder of the fleet over the next several months. When Carnival Magic enters service in May 2011, a Punchliner Comedy Club will also be featured on the line’s newest “Fun Ship.”
All of Carnival’s aft show lounges will be converted to comedy clubs with a special stage and branded glassware, menus, employee uniforms and other items featuring the Punchliner Comedy Club logo. Guests can learn about the performer lineups and schedules in the ship’s Fun Times newsletter.
Carnival is the most popular cruise line in the world with 22 “Fun Ships” operating voyages from three to 16 days in length to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, Europe and Bermuda. The line currently has two new 130,000-ton ships on order – Carnival Magic, set to debut in Europe May 1, 2011, and Carnival Breeze, scheduled to enter service in spring 2012.

dear john
have a great week yourself and kiss baby kye for me
John, you are the best. I was so surpirsed when I got on my sailing on the Carnival Freedom and Bimal, the maitre’d says tp our family “John says hi and hopes you like your table”. I had blogged you about a private table for my family and you apparently had contacted Bimal. Thanks so much and by the way, Bimal was fantastic!!!
John, (Please Reply)
I want to thank you for your very entertaining Blogs. I am a recent new reader and have enjoyed them so much. I am really disappointed that you will not be the CD on our cruise on the Carnival Valor in October. We are cruising October 17th-24th, 2010. This will be our 3rd Carnival cruise and we will be celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. I looked on your CD schedule and saw that our CD is scheduled to be Goose Noonan. Can you tell me anything about him? Just curious.
Hope you are enjoying your time with Heidi and Kye. I know they love having you at home for a while.
Hi John
I enjoy reading your blogs here. You are a very funny man Hubby & I will board the dream nov 6 with the dreamin with the crazies group
we have waited 18 months for this cruise & remember your videos showing the coves during building we had to book one
this will be our first 7 night cruise & are very excited thanks for all the dream info
we can’t wait!!!!
So glad to hear that the comedy clubs will now be fleetwide. DH and I sailed on the Carnival Glory last August, when the comedy club was debuting, and we saw the late night performances of each comedian. They were fabulous, and the lounge was standing-room only every night. It’s a great addition to the night life on Carnival ships!

How much time do you actually spend with John Heald since it is a bloggers cruise and the cruise cost more? I heard he didn’t show up on one of the excursions that people paid for to be with him on a past bloggers cruise? Thanks, Josea
Josea,
John has activities set up each day for just the bloggers that he attends. Plus if he is also the CD on the ship for that cruise he is at the shows for the whole cruise. The shore excursions for the bloggers I went on John was there.

Hi John; Great to hear that there will be a comedy club on all the ships. That the type of shows I usually attend when on a Carnival Cruise. The noticed that it said before the end of the year. I am sailing on the Spirit 1/14/2011 and look forward to seeing all the shows especially the comedy ones. Now I wish Carnival could work on some of the other daily shows in lieu of ” Love & marriage, & hairy man contest “. I have been on 5 cruises in 18 months and they are all the same! Which leaves less to do in the daytime, but no matter I will still cruise with Carnival, it’s the best bang for the buck! Julie G.
Hi John
I Have been performing as a comedian and magician in comedy clubs, resorts, and coorporate events for more than 25 yrs. where can I send my promo kit to be considered for Carnival’s new comedy club formate. Thanks for any info you can share with me. Mark..
Comedy Club on Glory was fun, but too crowded. The main shows are still my favorite, and more comfortable! Kudos to Carnival for having both options FOR SURE! Already booked again for next year.
Really enjoyed the Comedy Club on my June 10th cruise on the Glory. We got there early enough to get good seats and those who came in late had to sit up front. It was good fun for the 30 or so minutes we were there.
Dumb question –
Why is up front so bad? I am hearing impaired
sounds like a bonus to me! It helps to see the lips in my world.
John, please reply….
Hello, John! Yes, we agree that the fleetwide comedy clubs are going to be a success. We had a wonderful time at the Dream Comedy Club last Dec.
Surprise! Maybe not anymore a surpise for you because by now you know how much we love cruising and how often we do it…. We have booked a 1-wk. cruise on the Emerald Princess sailing Aug. 15 from Pt. Everglades. We’ll visit Princess Cays in Eleuthera, Bahamas; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mex. With the exception of Princess Cays, we have been several times on all the rest, but we don’t mind…. we enjoy the ships so much that sometime we do it for the ships! We are hooked!
Please say hi to Heidi and give a big hug and kiss to Kye. For you, as always, our warmest regards and we’ll keep you posted on any forthcoming cruises.
The Santanas of Miami Beach
Loved the Comedy Club on Carnival Dream, but by the time we were out of supper or the show in the main lounge there was never any seating left. I think the Comedy Clubs have been undersized for as popular as they are.
Hi John,
Wonderful news! We enjoyed the comedy club on the Carnival Dream and look forward to it on future Carnival cruises.

John (and bloggers),
Today’s blog on the comedians got me thinking. Has Carnival ever had the pleasure of John Pinette’s company on board?
He is one of the funniest people I have ever seen and heard. He does a great bit on water parks and food and buffets…which I think would be especially entertaining on a Carnival ship, not to mention the fact that he is not a small person, but he uses that to his advantage. He had a CD out titled “Show Me the Buffet” and now a DVD, “I Say Nay Nay”. He is hilarious.
His website is http://www.johnpinette.com/ and I think you or the beards should check it out. Once we’re able to start cruising again, I’d love to see both of you on board!
Have fun with the girls!
Leanne
I loved the Comedy Corners on the Carnival Dream. I’m so happy it will be on other ships. Bring it on.

Hey John, Please Respond
Glad to hear the new comedy clubs will be smoking. Any chance cigars will be allowed?
Thanks
John – will it be on the Freedom by my cruise in Late September? I have heard rumors but was hoping to find out! Its my group’s 5th cruise with Carnival and this is going to be very special. My cruise roomate will be out of the hospital by then with his new pacemaker! (at 27, this is a feat) We are going to live it up like there is not tomorrow!
John,
Hope that you can help or suggest how to take care of this. We have a group of 8 of us traveling on Triumph 10/23 and would like to get a round table instead of a straight table. This is probably the only time that all of my husband’s brothers/sisters will be able to take a cruise together and we would like to make the most of it. We really pushed the family to take the cruise and specifically the Carnival cruise.
Thank you.
CBTexas
all tables in the main dinning room are all round
Hi John,
I’m a comic from LA. Just wondering if you know who to contact for hiring on board the cruise ships?
