I am used to guest thinking I am much older than I really am. Usually they say 55 and I know that’s because of either my grey hair, my droopy eyes that have celebrity-sized massive Chaelersache bags underneath them or all of the above. I also am aware that being on TV makes you look older and often when I talk to a guest close up they remark “Y’all look much younger in real life.”

I am not going to dwell on what happened yesterday too much except to say that apart from one or two guests who felt compensation was due to them because of our late port arrival, the guests have been amazing with many offering support and words of sympathy. The crew are sad, there is no doubt that this has had an effect on them and yet they are keeping their sadness to crew areas and when they are with the guests they are hiding their true emotions and being what Carnival crew always are………professional, courteous and of course fun.

I write this whilst at sea on the maiden voyage of Queen Elizabeth. We enjoyed a beautiful sail away from Southampton last evening in glorious sunshine and all on board are now settling nicely into the voyage. (more…)

Last night at 1 am my phone rang and so did the alarm bells in my head when I heard the captain’s voice requesting my “immediate” presence on the bridge. And this time those alarm bells rang true because when I arrived I saw the ship’s powerful spotlight illuminating the sea which meant that we were searching for something………or someone.

Sadly, it was someone…..in fact it was one of our crew members who had been reported jumping overboard by several of his fellow crew members and the search was on to find him. The crew who had witnessed this had immediately thrown a life ring and a lifejacket overboard and as soon as both hit the water their emergency beacon lights were activated and were now illuminated even more by the Carnival Splendor’s emergency spotlight.

Cabin——– SINGLE CRUISER COMMENT

Ms—– came to the GSD to say that she was sailing on her own and that she had not met any friends yet and wants the Cruise Director to introduce her to other single people. GSA asked guest if she went to the singles party last night and guest said she did but nobody spoke to her. Guest was then crying at desk so GSA took her to lobby and sat with her. Tasked to CD.

Goodness me I felt sorry for this guest when I read this and I was determined to help her. (more…)

I must really love you. Yes, it must me unconditional, unbridled love that I am feeling because it’s six sodding fifteen in the morning and here I sit, in my underpants, having had 5 hours sleep and bugger all breakfast or coffee……writing to you……yes you. Today I enter Dante’s Inferno for two days of mandatory health and safety training and while I understand and commit to Carnival’s commitment to safety I would rather skip naked down a beach (more…)

As a diabetic I have to have what’s called an A1C which is a measurement of my sugar level over the last 3 months. Thanks to the new equipment we have in our medical centers onboard they can now do this for me and give me the results straight away. This means I don’t have to go to see Doctor Longfinger when I am back home.
