I don’t smell of roses at the best of times but as the laundry is not working and I only have two pairs of underpants I smell like Paris on a hot summer’s day………that’s Paris the city not Paris the …….person.

So here I am with a very quick hello. I am so sorry that I have not been blogging or Facebooking but we have had no internet and only now just got limited e-mail which an I/S beard has let me borrow for a few moments to say hello. Obviously it has been a challenge but let me tell you the most important facts and those are that the ship is safe, the guests are safe and that nobody was injured in what was a very difficult situation. I also want to tell you that the guests have been magnificent and have risen to the obvious challenges and difficult conditions onboard.

It’s Stephanie here again. Below is the latest update on the Carnival Splendor.

Miami, FL — November 9, 2010 (12 noon EST)

The cruise ship Carnival Splendor, which lost power after experiencing an engine room fire, is currently being towed via tug boats to San Diego. Based on favorable sea conditions, the ship is expected to arrive around midday on Thursday.

As the ship gets closer to coastal areas, guests are now beginning to receive intermittent cellular service. Additionally, the ship’s phone system is working on a limited basis and guests are able to make complimentary calls home.

Hi Everyone,

It’s Stephanie here. As you may be aware, the Carnival Splendor experienced a fire this morning. John and everyone on board are safe. However, John has been unable to post any blog updates. Below is the latest information. We will post additional updates as we have them.

Miami, FL — November 8, 2010 (9 pm EST) — At approximately 6 am this morning (U.S. Pacific Standard Time), a fire was detected in the aft engine room aboard the cruise ship Carnival Splendor. The fire has been extinguished. There were no injuries to guests or crew.

The ship has been operating on auxiliary generators throughout the day and engineers have been unable to restore additional power to the vessel. As a result, the current voyage is being terminated. Tugboats are currently en route to the ship which is located off the coast of Mexico, approximately 150 miles south of San Diego. The tugs will tow the vessel to Ensenada, Mexico in an effort to get the guests home as quickly as possible.

For the past few day’s I’ve come into your world and had a good old moan about……… well everything. I’ve complained about the mad professor who thinks that the Mayans know the end of the world is just around the corner. I’ve whined about how much I miss my girls and the US dollar falling quicker than Paris Hilton’s underwear on a Saturday night or any night for that matter. I’ve looked under every conceivable stone and been grumpy about everything I’ve found.

I wrote on my Facebook page yesterday four simple words “I miss my girls” and received so many wonderful comments of support back from those who read it. I know this subject and my resulting miserable will piss off some regular readers of the blog thingy but I think I am entitled to express my feelings once in a while ………aren’t I?

Someone once said that all men are created equal. I am not sure who it was but he probably had a beard, wore sandals and listened to folk music…………..unfortunately he was talking bollocks.

One of the best things about embarkation day is that I am pretty much free to wander the ship without too many people knowing who the fat bloke in sweatpants and oversized T Shirt is. This is good because it allows me to get coffee and lunch without being asked questions and also being the grey man.
