I love carnival but hate the discrimination that goes to other countries. That can not enter any competitions as not being a US citizens Hate it.& thinking of not doing another carnival-cruise because of it …I spent a lot of money on that ship Tho I really enjoyed it all …Now starting to regret..Due to getting treated like this ….shame! shame! shame!…From Australia!

    • Linda (Mom of DJ) says:

I do not know about your laws, but the reason Canadians can not enter is because their Canadian law forbids it.

Perhaps you should check and see IF Carnival is the problem or if it is your own country before passing judgment????

    • KP says:

Tricia, I would expect that many of the competitions aren’t open to other countries because of government restrictions on competition rules. This isn’t something that Carnival would have any control over.

Why you would call that discrimination by Carnival, feel regret at having been on the cruises, and consider not doing another Carnival cruise because of it, seems a tad extreme!

      From a fellow Australian

    • Linda C says:

Please be logical. Dont wear your feelings on your sleeves. If Carnival says some are excluded it is for legal reasons, not because they do not care for people from “other” countries. WE are from other countries, since all of their ships come from across the water. If you are disappointed, it is under4standable, but why make such statements and allegations

    • Chris Benson says:

You are 100% right Trisha. Not just competitions. Why cannot Australians have access to the same fares as US & Canadian folks. Carnival slugs us with high prices and then we have to fly half way round the world to join the ship. You can send Spirit to Sydney but you will not get repeat cruisers in the US because of this. There is nothing worse than feeling 2nd class. Time this was fixed John.

      • Pam Bauer says:

Once again this is not John’s fault, this is not Carnival’s fault and their is NOTHING they can do to change it. It is the countries themselves that do not allow you to be able to enter the contest.

    • Not sure about Australia, but parts of Canada require an extra “skills” step to prove (I guess) that they have a pulse (or something). There isn’t a law that I am aware of that forbids entry, so I think it is back on Carnival.

  2. Matt Vansciy says:

    Love IT!!!!

  3. Mary says:

Love reading all of John’s blogs. It was great seeing some of the up-dates to the ship. Husband can’t wait to try a guy’s burger.

    • Linda C says:

Mary: I am not that into burgers, but I tried Guys burger on the Breeze and it was awesome!! I liked the fries even better. Your husband wwill not be disappointed

  4. gail lafrance says:

I would some sunshine!! It is my destiny

  5. Susan / Please reply says:

Yet another contest that you cannot enter if you don’t facebook or twitter. What’s with that. Very unhappy

    • Suzanne says:

Social media is the future and the future is here. One must roll with the changes in life and businesses are doing just that, because they have to.

  6. d carter says:

Just wanted to say that I am not a “social media”guru. lol. My wife and I took a cruise this past August, our first. Not our last, we already have a trip booked for later this year. On Feb 2, we will have been married for 28 years. I wish we had taken a cruise every year we have been married. But…Its never to late..Cant wait!!!

  8. Jeanette says:

I am in total agreement with Trisha, having the contest open to Americans only is exlcuding many, many, many loyal Carnival cruisers. Almost every single contest they have is for US citizens only.

I’ll still cruise with Carnival, but it sucks they forget that there is a whole world of people outside of the 50 US states…

  9. Katie says:

I have been playing the Grab Your Destiny contest for three days now and it is so much fun. I love it.

  10. Tibor Kovacs says:

I agree with Trish. It seems Carnival is price gouging the Aussie market and that is one of the reasons I choose to take cruises overseas as they can end up cheaper overall. I also do not like the fact that Carnival Spirit cannot be booked through the US site. I suppose that is the way they keep the accounting different by treating the Spirit as a totally seperate Company.

    Also from Aus

  11. Giù Mancuso says:

Can’t wait to see Sunshine the Mediterranean!

  12. RANDY SOBELMAN says:

CHANGING THE NAME IS BAD LUCK

  13. nancy says:

Will be on the Sunshine in November. Can’t wait!

  14. The Cruzin2some says:

  15. Alice Bertzfield says:

Loved the clip showing the new Sunshine. Would love to go with everyone on the blogger cruise next year. One question,is the ship sailing out during Mardi Gras ?

    • Beverly "Janey" Winford says:

No, BC7 is February 16, 2014 and Mardi Gras is March 4, 2014.

I’m really looking forward to doing our 6th Blogger’s cruise on the newly designed ship, but probably won’t book until at least our B2B on the Triumph in April or even our Crazies Halloween cruise on the Magic in October….

  16. rick williamson says:

I’m like you others that don’t do facebook. this suck!

  17. Lynn says:

Took my 1st cruise on the Destiny in1999, was a wonderful experience! Why the name changed? Sailors say that it is bad luck to rename a ship. I know that it is completely redone but why change the name.

  18. SONJA POWELL says:

I love you blog. Keep-up the good work. I just watched your tour of the Sunshine and The Breeze and I thought the presentation was wonderful. I,m ready to sail away today. Tell your bosses to give you a raise, you are the best promotion for the cruiseline.

  19. Mike Ryan says:

I’ll pass on sailing Sunshine… she’s losing public rooms, adding hundreds of passengers, and not providing any more staff to handle those extra passengers? Pretty as she looks, I’ll skip the most-densely-packed ship in the Caribbean.

  20. Nick Buchko says:

I hope I win!!! I’m up to 651 points (those treasure chests would look great next to my pond!!!!)

  21. Kristi says:

Would you know the musical entertainment on board the Carnival Elation on July 18th sailing from New Orleans, LA? I am told this is the cruise with Bands such as Bag of Donuts, CheeWeez, etc

  22. bg says:

maybe people who don’t live in the US should check their own country’s laws before they blame carnival…looking forward to sailing on the Sunshine!

  23. Tania LoNero says:

I enter every day but I dont have any friends so I guess the refer thing will dock me mega points. :( But here is hoping maybe I win a cruise. Oh hey John I was wondering I think carnival should have a ship named Treasure. Because it would pull together all the great ships in the fleets.

  24. Michael Hooton says:

Can’t wait to board the Sunshine August/September, 2014 for our honeymoon cruise out of New Orleans for Key West and the Bahamas. Let the Sunshine in…..

  25. steven says:

    Hello John,

Jesus Christ John…Carnival wants us to “sync” our social accounts AKA GIVE CARNIVAL ACCESS TO THEM…SHAME ON YOU!! So we can build Carnival’s presence up among the people we know and gain points….TOWARDS WHAT EXACTLY???? WHAT ARE THESE ALLEGED PRIZES? I suspect it is something like ten million points for a free drink? By that time I’m sure Carnival is looking to charge for ice so how free will it be remains to be seen. With this refit I will hope the Destiny finally manages to address all the mechanical issues it has had. You have lied time and again about all the problems with the Destiny. Maybe now Mr Arison will let the moths out of his wallet and really fix the ship this time?
