Highlighting Japhet Gacus – Stateroom Steward

1. Can you tell us how long you have been working for Carnival Cruise Lines? What year did you start and what is your current position.
I have worked for Carnival for 13 years and started in 1995. I am now a Stateroom Steward.

2. Where are you from and what is the best thing about living there?
I am from Cagayan de Oro in the Philippines. I love the Philippines because of the nature and climate but the best thing is the people. Everyone looks after everyone and there is no crime and it is safe.

3.Are you married and tell us about some of your family?
Japhet is married and has an adopted boy who is 10 years old. He has 8 brothers and 1 sister.

4. What does your job involve? Describe what you do each day.
I get up around 7 am and start work at 7:30am. I have 22 cabins to clean everyday — 10 suites, 2 penthouse and 10 inside cabins. I clean and make the beds in the morning and finish around 12:30pm on port days and 1:30pm on sea days. I then take a break and return to work at night to make the towel animals and remake the beds at 5:30 pm and finish around 9:30pm.

5. What is the best thing about working on a cruise ship.
Explore the many ports of call and meet new friends. I also like saving money for my family as we are building a house where we can all live together.

6.What is the hardest thing about working on a cruise ship.
Missing the family and embarkation day which is the hardest working day.

7. Please tell us your favorite things.

FOOD – Pasta with Tomatoes

MOVIE – Out to Sea

MUSIC – soft music and oldies

FAVORITE WAY TO RELAX – I chill inside the cabin watching TV and hanging out with friends

8. If you could any other job on the ship for a day what would you like to do and why
Print Shop Tech/Purser bellman – the job he did before becoming a stateroom steward
9. FAVORITE PORT – St. Thomas

10. If you could meet one famous person in the world who would it be and why The President of the United States – just want to shake his hand

Hi, I’m John, and this is my blog. So please don’t mistake my opinions — or those of my dear friends, fans or commenters — for those of Carnival Cruise Line or Carnival Corporation. My apologies in advance for anything I may say that upsets you, but this disclaimer covers Carnival and puts the blame directly on me………….. bugger.
