I’m sailing on the Ecstasy leaving Galveston on 12/4/08… (QUITE CLOSE and I’m excited!!) And I need help…

The gal I’m sailing with is an office-mate and a RCCL devotee. I don’t know if I can convert her, or if it matters anyway… BUT: I want to make this SPECIAL for her so she can feel just a bit of the fun I get cruising CARNIVAL.

You know me… (Well, does anyone really know Lambie???) Can you think of something, other than my CRAZIES-ness, passion, and love of CARNIVAL that will let her see how great the Ecstasy and Caranival is???

She’s one who like to surf on the wave thingy, climb the wall, earn the little vouchers for free Tshirts and robes and things by participating… so I think she’ll enjoy all the activities… but there’s no Supper Club for me to take her to, there isn’t a Mardi Gras on the short cruises… I’m racking my brain trying to think of something…

Maybe there isn’t anything I NEED to do… Maybe I’m over thinking this… I just love CARNIVAL cruisin’… maybe that’s the secret… Maybe it’s just letting her see my enthusiasm???

Thanks… You and Stephanie really are THE BEST!!!

Hi to Heidi and Thingy… XOXOXOXOX

John Says:
Hello Lambie,

It’s always great to hear from you. Hopefully all the activity such as the deck party, games and events will be enough for her to see just why Carnival has got the fun. However, if you send me a comment 3 days before you sail with her name and cabin number I will add a few surprise. My best to you and your friend and it’s always great to hear from you.

Hey John, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog on a daily basis. And, believe it or not, you’ve inspired me to do two things:

Firstly, (for you Brits who like words like “firstly” instead of “first”) you inspired me to start blogging over a year ago! Blogging about living in Panama and cruising has been a great discovery. I’ve enjoyed it and hopefully my readers have as well.

Second, you’ve inspired me to go to sea as a second, “post-retirement” career! Holland America is putting an “Explorations Team” on board its ships including a “Travel Guide” who will host lectures and be a one-stop source for information on the various ports of call. Reading about your adventures and the challenges of living and working on board ship has inspired me . . . and starting this weekend I will be the Travel Guide for the ZUIDERDAM!

I hope in your tour of Carnival family ships you will come and visit us on the ZUIDERDAM! So thanks to you, and your “bloggy thing” for opening new adventures.

Regards, Richard

John Says:
Hello Richard,

I wouldn’t have bothered you with this except I couldn’t find link for web page feedback (and you really should have one!!). As a proud speaker of the Queen’s English, something about the following statement from the page just didn’t seem right. What do you think?

Start Booking Now
Ask the Fun Experts
Build the funnest cruise ever.
Book it all online.

By the way, the baby seat goes in the center of the back seat facing the rear of the vehicle. The center seat belt runs through the base of the car seat. In addition, there is a restraint strap that attaches to the top of the car seat and runs towards the rear of the vehicle. Most new cars have an anchor point (sometimes two!) in the rear deck that the other end of the strap attaches to. If you’ve got a Range Rover or some other SUV thingy, you’ll have to ask your dealer where the anchor point is. I’m sure that your vehicle will have one if it’s less than twenty years old.

My youngest thingy no longer needs to ride in a car seat. He’s 6′ 5″.

Have a great day!!

John Says:
Hello Mike,

Thanks first of all on the info on the airbags it’s one of those things I know nothing about so your information was very helpful. I see exactly what you mean about the Funville page and have pointed it out to Stephanie who in turn will show the people responsible. There continues to be a huge difference between English and American English. According to my father I’m becoming more American every day. Have great day mate.

Please reply as soon as possible! I need your help!
Hi John,
Long time no talk-to. We are one of the unfortunate families that were booked on the Carnival Liberty, July 8, 2009. We were really excited that you were going to be on our cruise. My parents were going to take us on one last big trip due to the fact that my Dad has macular degeneration in both eyes and is losing his eyesight a little more every day.

I was going to start e-mailing you in January to start planning meals for my sister who has celiac. You were very helpful when we sailed with you on the Carnival Freedom in June, 2007. I guess I won’t have to e-mail you now. Bugger!

We are trying to re-book on Holland America Eurodam on July 10, 2009. We are having a really hard time. Though Tanya in the booking department has been really great, we are getting quite the run-around switching cruises. There are very few balcony rooms available (we need 4 rooms) on the July 10th cruise that would have been comparable to our rooms on the Liberty. Is there anything you can do to help us. We would really appreciate it.

By the way, congratulations to you and Heidi, you’ll be great parents. I only got one piece of useful advice when I had my first baby; whenever the baby wakes up from sleeping, always walk into the room with a smile on your face, no matter what mood you’re in. The baby will always smile back.

Thanks in advance
Terri aka Coolieo Mom

John Says:
Hello Coolieo Mom,

It’s great to hear from you again Teri. Fist of all please accept my apologies that your vacation plans have been disrupted by the cancellation of the Liberty in Europe. I see you’re having problems booking on the Eurodam and that should not be. I have copied somebody in a senior position here at Carnival who will assist you and you will be hearing from them shortly. If you encounter any further problems please let me know. And thanks for the advice on smiley.

My best to you and your family,

8 yrs yeaaa i have been reading alot and i have not heard you say anything about the triumph

Denver Hartman

John Says:
Hello Denver,

Thank you for taking the time to write in. You mentioned choosing the Carnival Triumph for your anniversary cruise. Carnival Triumph has always been one of my favourite ships, especially since I was involved in the delivery. It has a brilliant itinerary and great staff, so yes I think it will be perfect for your family vacation. If you have any specific questions about the ship I am at your service.

LisaK Asked:
John, please reply.
We are leaving sailing on the Valor on 11/23. Can you tell me who the cruise director will be?

Lisa and George Kilmartin

John Says:

Hello Lisa and George,

The cruise director for your Carnival valor voyage will be Chris Jefferson. He is a fantastic young man and will make sure you have a fantastic time.

Maribeth Kring Asked:
Oops, sent the last one too soon. I am working on something for the Thingy and needed to know a few things. You’ve probably already written them in the blog but I can’t find them.

1) Was the Thingy made on the Splendor?
2) I think I remember that you and Heidi met through Carnival. If that’s true, how and where?
3) When is Thingy’s expected arrival?
4) Do you know if Thingy is a he or a she yet?

Thanks a lot,

PS Can you ask Jaime to send a Giant Hi to Greg Gallello for me and that I’ll see him on Dec. 27th?

John Says:
Hello Maribeth,

First of all I want to thank you for your wonderful comments and I especially enjoyed reading about how playing games brought your family together. I am so humbled by the fact that you are making something for the thingy and let me answer your questions:

1- The thingy was made on the Splendor during 3 minutes of unbridled passion.
2- Heidi and I did not meet onboard, but ashore. Rather than me ramble on have a look at a video on my Facebook group. We met in Amsterdam but the video will tell you all about it. (look for John Heald is the best cruise director in the world)
3- The thingy is expected to arrive May 15th
4- At this moment I do not know what the thingy is. Heidi has decided we will wait until the birth.

I’ll pass on your request to Jaimie as well. Thank you again for everything you have done and will do for us.

Your friends,

John and Heidi
Susan V Asked:
John, Please Reply:

Did I misunderstand the change in the Liberty that it would be staying in the caribbean? I have tried to find information on it and the CCL site only shows the winter dates. We are planning another cruise for next September and wanted to consider this cruise. Any information would be appreciated!

John Says:
Hello Susan,

The Carnival Liberty will be indeed sailing to the Caribbean from Miami. The website will be updated soon with this information. However I know you can already book through your agent or a pvp. Please let me know if you have any questions. My best to you and your family.

MY wife and I are working on the detail to sail on the Dream in 2009 Dec 3 sailing and as I know you get 1000’s of this post a day and you may not remember me from Adam. i have a few questions

The wife thought it would be fun to being the Grandkids on the cruise with us and wanted me to see if there is any discounts for young kids .

I have talk with one of the cruise planner and sadden by finding out none of the cabins are avilable for more then 4 passagers and to be able to to being our four grand kids we would have to spilt thm up in two cabins and charge as 1st and 2nd passager twice

as a marketing grad this year I would think sence carinval is the leading vacation cruise ship company would it be wise to maybe have a way the a family of more then four. As it stands now it seam to provent large familys in joining in the fun that carnival offers to a family.

i am interested in your comments and any ideas in a way i can being my grand kids along with out brakeing me lol
Your Friend
AKA Dave and Diana

John Says:

Hello Adam, sorry I mean Dave,

You bring up a really good point and I am sure we should be doing everything we can to get your business. Carnival is the most popular cruise line in the world for families and we need to do everything we can to make sure that continues. I will forward this to somebody senior within reservations and see what they have to say. Please leave this with me for a few days and I will get back to you soon. Thank you for your kind words. My best to you and your family.

Here is some additonal information:
Good Morning,
The Dream can accommodate up to 5 people in one cabin, which at this time quints are sold out on the 12/3rd sailing. However, since Dave and Diana are looking to bring their 4 grandchildren it appears that they would need something to accommodate 6 guests which we do not have on any of our ships. We do offer connecting cabins for families in categories 5+. So that’s certainly something that they can consider. The Dream is booking up quickly, so I suggest that if they’re looking to sail they reserve their cabins as soon as possible. If they’d like one of my agents to contact them, please let me know. Otherwise they can certainly call us directly or get with their travel agent.

Let me know if there is anything else.

Hi, I’m John, and this is my blog. So please don’t mistake my opinions — or those of my dear friends, fans or commenters — for those of Carnival Cruise Line or Carnival Corporation. My apologies in advance for anything I may say that upsets you, but this disclaimer covers Carnival and puts the blame directly on me………….. bugger.
