Melody Asked:
John,
Maybe you can get some information for me regarding a future sailing. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the schedules of New Orleans sailings of the Triumph for the month of June 2010. I am planning a group sailing and we would like the Miami, Freeport, Nassau itinerary. If you could gather this information and bring it on the Bloggers Cruise, we would love to book it at that time. Also, my husband and I were married on August 3, 2008. We are available for your Newlywed Game on the Blogger’s Cruise.
Regards,
Melody

John Says:

Hello Melody
I am sorry that I didn’t have chance to confirm the schedules for 2010 on the bloggers cruise. I will be able to confirm this week though that you can go ahead and book your group for the Carnival Triumph as all the finalized itineraries should be made public very soon. You can imagine how complicated placing 23 ships is especially if you take into account the economy. We want to get it right so just bear with me another few days and i will let you know what’s happening. It was great to meet you and I hope you and your friends had a wonderful time.
Cheers
John

Alissa Asked:

I enjoyed the article as I was just on the Splendor. She is certainly beautiful and we all marveled at the interior design of the ship! So much so in fact that we wondered where we might be able to purchase the Murano glass wall sconces found on the Lido deck… They were stunning and we would like to place them in our home. Are they available?
Thank you, your design added to the glory of whole cruise experience.
Alissa and family

John Says:

Hello Alissa
Thank you so much for your appreciation of the interior of the Carnival Splendor. I am sure our designer Joe Farcus will be very happy when he reads your comments. The glass pieces you refer to were made specifically for the Carnival Splendor by the Murano glass factory in Italy. I am sorry to say that they were one of pieces however having visited the factory in Venice I do know that they will make to order. Therefore, if you contact them and explain what you would like I know they will be able to help you. I am sorry I couldn’t help further but I would be fascinated to know if you are successful to please let us know. My best to you and the family.

John

Andrea Asked:

Hi John (please reply),
you’ve gotta love the sorry excuse for customer service you get at most places nowadays. We get complaints filed against us at work all the time because we don’t have the answer that the caller wanted… It makes me smile to imagine what these people’s employers would think if we actually filed complaints on these people for how rude they are on the phone to us! We have taped lines here and it always amazes the supervisors when they take a listen and see how their employees talked to us. Not many of the complaints go further.

I just have a small question about the Splendor. My fiancée and I are getting married on board on April 26/09 and we just found out that we didn’t get to have a first dance with the reception package that we paid for so we booked the DJ (the reception will be in the Red Carpet Dance club now). Everything’s cool there but the girl that it trying to help me with the booking isn’t technologically inclined. I need to know if we can have our music on an MP3 player or whether it has to be a CD (for ceremony & reception). If it’s a CD can it be in an MP3 format or does it have to be a regular old audio CD? She doesn’t know the difference and I’d really like to get it sorted out so we can get our music ready. Thank you so much for the help John!
All the best to Heidi and the Thingy! Hope the time goes by quickly until you see them again!

John Says:

Hello Andrea
Thanks for the great comment. I want you to know that at the top of my list of people I want to poke in the eye are the ones who use abusive and threatening language to those in the service industry. Yes, I get grumpy when I receive bad service but I have never and will never threaten a staff member………….as you said, it’s inexcusable. Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage onboard the Carnival Splendor. You must be very excited. Now, I am not very technically gifted as regular readers of the blog thingy will confirm. However, I do know that our DJ equipment is very modern and does have MP3 link thingy adapt…………you can use your MP3 player for your first dance. It might be best to have a back up on CD just in case your MP3 is made in Pakistan and the DJ booth equipment is made in China and the two won’t talk to each other. Regardless, all will be well and you shall have your first dance. I wish I could be there to see it. Please let me know if you need anything else.
My best to you both
John

Irene Garner Asked:

Dear John,
PLEASE REPLY
I recently wrote to you to ask whether the shore excursion we wanted to take on our upcoming three day Mexican Cruise in April “City Tour and Mexican Fiesta” was going to be available at a later date as it was not in the list for us to choose from. You told me to look for something else to celebrate my grandson’s 18th birthday, as that excursion was no longer available. I have just checked the page, out of curiosity and the excursion is now listed and I have already booked something else. I am going to phone Carnival right now to see if I can exchange our booking, but I just wanted you to be aware that they are not giving you the right information.
Thanks….Irene Garner

John Says:

Hello Irene
I just checked and you are correct the tour is now back on. It seems whatever concerns they had with this excursion have been rectified. I have let the team know and you will be able to switch back to your original request. If you encounter any problems you must let me know so I can take care of them for you.
My apologies and my kind regards
John

Amy Petersen Asked:

John,
I am so thrilled to find your blog. We cruised with you on our first cruise on the Sensation in 01/1995. We have cruised a couple of other times on Carnival and have often wondered if you were still a cruise director with them. My girlfriends and I shared a drink or two with you in one of the clubs back then and have photos to prove it!! We are looking at cruising again in the fall. My PVP has suggested the Carnival Liberty. When looking at the pictures, it doesn’t appear the pool area has been updated with the beautiful new amenities. Do you know if there are any plans for renovations of this ship in the near future? We have been on the Sensation, Valor, and Triumph.
Thanks for any help you can provide and happy cruising! I would love to cruise on a ship with you as the CD again! You were absolutely fantastic and amazing!

John Says:

Hello Amy
WOW, 1995. I would love to see the photos, maybe you can send them along on your next comment posting. It’s great that you have found the blog thingy and yes, here I am, still a cruise director………..well…………..some of the time. I am also very excited that you are choosing another Carnival cruise. The Carnival Liberty pool area is as modern as can be. It has a large pool forward and aft and a huge independent twister slide which sits beside another swimming pool. There is also a huge outdoor movie screen on which you will enjoy movies, concerts and much more.

If you are looking for the Evolutions of Fun water park then may I suggest the Carnival Fantasy five-day or the Carnival Imagination five-day? These ships have the multi slides and are simply brilliant. So, have a think about it and let me know what you decide or if you have further questions, let me help you.
Hope to see you soon
Cheers
John

Irene Garner Asked:

Dear John….please reply.
I have managed to change my shore excursion on our 3 day cruise to Mexico starting April 10th, to the one we really wanted in the first place, so I am very happy about that.
I am wondering about the entertainment on board the ship on the 3 day cruises. Is there likely to be a show in the theatre, or maybe some kind of entertainment on the lido deck on the Saturday evening? This would really round off a great 18th birthday for my grandson. Thanks….Irene Garner (hooked on cruising)
Sorry I have another question. Do the 3 day cruises count towards the 10 you have to take to reach platinum status?
Thanks again…Irene Garner

John Says:

Hello Again Irene
I just wrote to you a few minutes ago. I am glad you were able to change your excursion. The entertainment on a three-day cruise is spectacular and you will enjoy two huge shows featuring the dancers, singers, orchestra accompanied by scenery and special effects that will leave you forgetting you are in the middle of the ocean. There will also be comedians ready to have you both laughing all night long. There will be a deck party as well which will be the perfect way to welcome your grandson to adulthood.
I hope you both have a fantastic time
Cheers
John

Thanks so much for your earlier reply in regards to the sounding of whistles when a ship sails away from port. My wife and I have now booked our second ever cruise with carnival a mere 18 days after our inaugural cruise! We will be sailing the Carnival Freedom in January 2010. We get to visit 5 ports! San Juan, St. Thomas, Antigua, Tortola and Nassau. This time around we used Carnival’s PVP Deborah and she was very helpful, funny and enthusiastic!
John, can you please give us an insight how Carnival designs their Itineraries? I am particularly do so want to cruise to the ABC’s of the Caribbean, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao or at least one of those islands.
I understand that there needs to be a demand for those islands, and I would imagine some attention is paid to the actual route and ports that would comprise an itinerary, but there must be some other magic or variables that go into these decisions? I did not with interest the question about the Panama Canal itinerary.

John Says:

Hello Mate
I am glad you enjoyed my explanation of the ship’s whistle answer to when and where we can use it. You ask a great question about the ports and I could waffle on and give you some kind of answer. However, you deserve better so let me ask a colleague Terry Thornton who is the quiet unassuming brains behind the whole complex plan of where to send the ships. I will post his answer as soon as I can.
Thanks again and my best to you and the family.
John

Valeerie Asked:

Hi John. (Please reply)
I always agree with most of your comments but this time I had to disagree. Our son works in the movie and TV industry, one of the crew and as a parent which you will find out in May there is nothing like the feeling of seeing your sons name in the credits along with the likes of Michael Douglas or Keifer Sutherland. Even when it is a film he has not worked on my husband and I always stay to the end of the credits to see where the film took place or what music was played. I totally understand where you are coming from though. Love the blog and enjoying Jaime’s reports. Would have loved to do that trip but will be content with reading Mr. Bills comments and viewing his pictures. He does a fantastic job. Hi Bill. Last comment when you go on the Carnival Dream again would you please take a picture of cabin ### if you get time of course? Will you be traveling on the transatlantic??
Love to Heidi and Baby and of course to you too.
Val.
Port Rowan,Ontario.

John Says:

Hello Val
Of course I understand that you want to see your son’s name up in lights, what mother wouldn’t. I am sure you must be very proud of your son. Of course I will take a photo of the cabin for you. I will be there sometime in late May to have a look around before going to the inaugural. Please remind me near the time of the inaugural cruise and I will be happy to take a photo of your new home. I may see you on the TA cruise…….not sure yet nut hopefully we will be together. My best to you and my best to your son whom I wish a very successful career.

Hi John,
Just to let you know that I enjoy the blog and your sense of humor. However I am getting just a touch “prickly” about your comments regarding paying for steak on RCI, as did my daughter Jane a couple of days ago in her blog comment, As a regular passenger on RCI, NCL and Carnival I appreciate that all cruise lines have plus and minus points but must mention that on both RCI and NCL an alternative dinner menu which includes steak (at no charge) every night.
Celia P.

John Says:

Hello Celia
Although you didn’t actually ask me to respond to your posting I felt I had to. I wanted to apologize if I upset you with my comments about RCI and the famous steak. As you will read in a moment I had one other chap upset at this as well although in a very different way. However, in my defense I would like to say this. What I write are my own personal thoughts and not those of Carnival Cruise Lines (hence the disclaimer on the blog) and they are written with total and utter tongue in cheek. I should also mention that this is not just one way traffic as many will tell you that cruise directors of other lines are very quick and happy to publicly belittle Carnival over the PA system and on stage …………. something by the way I never do. So, please except my apologies and as you said in your comment you enjoy my sense of humor which is all my comments are based on ………… humor ………..and are never meant to be taken seriously. I hope you continue to read the blog and I send my kindest regards to you and your daughter
Cheers
John

Hi, I’m John, and this is my blog. So please don’t mistake my opinions — or those of my dear friends, fans or commenters — for those of Carnival Cruise Line or Carnival Corporation. My apologies in advance for anything I may say that upsets you, but this disclaimer covers Carnival and puts the blame directly on me………….. bugger.
